  1. if the guns were more inaccurate it would be like OGR? OGR had no bullet drop - it was point and click shooting - one shot one kill. but i like the idea of the GR maps.
  2. not sure where you thought the pissing contest was occurring, certainly wasn't in this thread. there have been many other ppl on other forums in other threads who have said OFP:DR will be crap compared to Arma2 - but I just don't see how these ppl can think a new game will be krap particularly when it hasn't even been played yet. i'm also hoping that while the games are somewhat different at present, that over time through modding and ongoing development for the sequel which im sure will follow, that the gap between the 2 games will close - OFP:DR will become far more tactical and implement more of the Arma2 features, hence, driving BIS to press forward in development. This may not be the case of course, but I'm optimistic about the future of tactical FPS with the addition of this game. Also, buying this game once doesnt mean that you have outright voted your full support for them - it is a vote of confidence for the candidate but if the game is rubbish it may not get the sales again in the future. BIS currently has the benefit of guaranteed sales and if OPF:DR was to develop into an amazing tactical fps with the amazing graffix then BIS would have to reconsider its position in the market (maybe look at developing that new engine after all - if they aren't already working on one). Either way - its the gamers who win in the long run.
  3. of course there is value in both games and those who don't see are plain idiots (no exceptions). what is the best way to make a game developer like BIS work harder on its game? add competition - real competition - a large island tactical fps game like OFP:DR. and what will make the OFP crew work harder? knowing they have to compete with BIS. who loses? noone. Who wins? the gamers everytime.
  4. nice work Durka - more of the same please
  5. happy birthday mate - if its any consellation you didn't sound like a senior citizen on comms. yes, your voice is still youthful - treasure it.
  6. ah yes - ill have to see how that works - so i could change to new missions?
  7. Look I know this is a big step and Im not sure how adminning works on these servers but - at Alpha Squad they used to give players who used servers and obeyed rules access to the password so they could change the missions which allowed players to jump in anytime. not saying you open it as a free for all - but having the server open at anytime for tactical players with password access to jump in, choose a mission, and play when they like was a great success and it worked at Alpha for years. the fact that you cant JIP means ppl who rock up can just ask how long the mission should last and be ready in the lobby for the next mission. thoughts?
  8. I will see if I can get some Alpha Squad members over here for this. This is the way we should be playing Arma2 every day!!! woohoo!!
  9. move tactical domination back one day - then we get best of both worlds
  10. thats what i have in my box - gr8 card you wont be disappointed. i am using the stock drivers at present not sure if there are better ones. the current driver works perfectly - if it aint broke - dont fix it.
  11. yep dont waste your cash on cpu just yet - wait another year. with 4 gig of ram its not your bottleneck. the card is your bottleneck - you need more memory and more power and anything less the 1 gig of vid memory is a waste of time. games need a gig now to run highest quality and no point buying a card if you will only run it on low medium.
  12. well this is sounding v promising - would be great to hook up some ppl for some weekend tactical.
  13. hi hoot i agree the 4870 with 1 gig memory is working like a treat. basically, more memory on your video card = more textures so you can run at highest quality without performance hit. your cpu should be fine - not pefect but good enough. and then you just tweak a few things in game like post processing - low or disabled and shadows low. that should sort you out.
  14. sweet!! so can i get the password for this so i can run some with other players? or do we need one of the above mentioned to host and choose missions? does a medic class work to revive downed players in this mission type? to be honest this is where i see a lot of the players playing Domination heading - this is exactly how tactical coop should work and the hardcore junkies will go for the no respawn, revive and jip for sure.
  15. I'd like to jump in the private server and start playing some of the smaller coop missions to see how good they are. Who's interested? We should try and hook up some coop sessions to try out all these missions and seek out new ones to add to the list. At its peak, the Alpha Squad server of Ghost Recon days would have 20+ players in a server picking any one of about 100 missions to play which would last up to 1 hour - no player enters after the mission starts and no respawns. That is how these missions should be played - teamwork and tactics absolutely critical to mission success. Thoughts?
  16. I am starting to feel the same way - Arma2 provides so many possibilities. I really want to start testing some of the smaller coop missions to see if the quality extends past domination.
  17. well i was lucky enough to Command (thanks Halli) and act as Squad Leader on two occasions. in all scenarios i was impressed with how the team(s) carried out their workload and followed orders. if i feel a team is starting to fray or individuals are not obeying orders i will snap them into line - and i think raising the voice occasionally or laying down the odd swear word to make a point is a very effective form of comms. it works for me everytime and is what you would expect from a leader irl. my opinion if a team member decides to press forward into danger and do his own thing when not directed to do so, and he is shot down - i will not allow the rest of my team to risk their lives nor the mission to revive him. i am fairly sure said person will reconsider the solo effort next time round. harsh perhaps - but sure to be effective in the long run. i think its working well though at present.
  18. i dont think its a gr8 idea for tactical domination - it defeats the purpose of using infantry to take over villages.
