  1. That's why I bought one before I got married. Gotta waste my money while I can. Here Zeno, I'll even print one of these for you, I know you've been wanting one a long time. You'll only have to pay me for shipping.
  2. Anything and everything. Mainly it is so I can design and print random parts for my electronics projects. Mounting brackets, hinges, and joints. Cases for the PCB boards I make, etc. I will probably also try doing some artsy stuff with it. A little bit of sanding and some paint can make a 3D print look like a professional piece. What I currently plan on making: Cases. Lots and lots of cases of all shapes and sizes for my various projects. Quadcopter or R/C helicopter (maybe a MH6 even) Dremel accessories (turn a Dremel into a mini table saw, drill press, router, lathe) Halloween decorations Automated pet food dispenser (mainly for the brackets/mounting hardware) Robotic arm R/C tank similar to this: Not to mention all the crap you can fix with it. When some random small, hard to find part breaks, you can just print a new one (within reason). They are coming out with new materials and composites to print with all the time. You can even get filaments that look like wood or are infused with metal to make prints that look like bronze/copper. Here is a good site that has a lot of different things you can print: http://www.thingiverse.com I've had my printer running pretty much non-stop since I bought it. It's awesome.
  3. Finally broke down and bought a 3D printer. It's just as awesome as I thought it'd be. I probably went a little overboard though, going straight for the $2250 Lulzbot Taz 6. If I were to buy it again I'd probably go with the $700 Prusa i3 MK2 instead. Still, the Taz 6 is a great printer. Here's a timelapse video of the T-Rex Skull print. Going to setup a 1080p camera for future timelapse videos. Some pictures: Now I just need a CNC router and/or laser cutter.
  4. Thanks for the recommendations guys! I haven't decided yet which one I want to go with yet, but it will probably be one of the three in this thread.
  5. Just wanted to post some economy info and tips for those that aren't already aware of them. Most of it is common sense, but some of it is not. I personally wasn't aware of the 25k port limit until a few days ago. Player Markets Most of you already know how the player markets work. Players can either place a sell order or a purchase order, and other players can then fulfill those orders. It is better to place an order than to either directly buy someone else's sell order or to directly sell to someone else's purchase order. Orders take patience, but save you money in the long run. Use them. Never directly fulfill a purchase order if you can help it, always place our own sell order unless the quantity is so low that it doesn't matter either way. Port Markets Ports buy and sell resources. Ports that consume said resource will buy that resource for more than ports that do not. So these are the ports you want to sell to. Use this map to determine good candidates for buying/selling a particular resource. Selling to ports instead of players is better because port prices are fixed. Meaning if you know Port A sells Iron Ore at 149g per, and Port B buys it at 222g per, you are pretty much guaranteed a 73g profit for each unit you sell. So there is much less risk involved than when dealing with the player market which can fluctuate and which will usually result in either less profit, or in most cases, a net loss compared to the port markets. This is especially true when you factor in order fees, which can be quite large depending on the item you are selling. One caveat to this though: Ports will only consume a set amount of a resource per in-game day. This means if you sell 2500 iron ore to a port for 222g and the price suddenly plummets to 1g afterward, you may have to wait a few hours before you can sell it for 222g again. Ports also have a max limit to how much they will buy. This limit is 25K for most resources. Once a port has 25,000 or more units of a resource stockpiled, the price will remain at 1g until their stock drops back down. This is important to keep in mind, because it means popular ports like Kingston are going to be extremely hard to sell commodities to and still make any kind of profit--but that also means they are great for buying resources to sell at other ports. As of yet I have not been able to determine when or if a port "resets" its stock. If this is entirely player driven (I hope not!) it means a port may never purchase an item again once it has stockpiled enough of it. Resets at a certain time (once a day, once a week) or slowly over a couple days would be more ideal, but I have not yet been able to figure out when or if this occurs. Another thing to keep in mind: you cannot determine how much stock a port currently has while players are also selling that resource. As it will then only show the quantity the player is selling. So if a port does not seem to ever want that resource for more than 1g, it could very well be because it has more than 25,000 units of that particular item already, but the player contracts are hiding that information from you. I will be looking into adding this information to the Navarch Trade Map, as port inventories are released every night during maintenance. I find the best method when trading is to establish an outpost at a port that consumes what you are selling (and has not reached the 25K limit), stockpile that resource there and check in once in a while to sell it when the port is buying. Otherwise you can open up a contract to sell your stock, just keep in mind anyone with an outpost at that port will most likely undercut you as soon as you leave. You may also be able to find a less frequented port that is more likely to be buying when you show up with your cargo. And for those of you selling tons of fish meat to ports, here's a tip: If you have some spare labor hours, then don't sell Fish Meat for 99g per. Instead, buy some salt, craft Food Supplies, and sell the supplies for 125g per. All ports sell salt. So, for instance, instead of selling 800 fish meat for profit of 79200g, you can instead craft and sell 800 food supplies for a total net profit of 90000g. Your only expense being the salt required to make it (and labor hours). This is also handy when the ports have reached their 25K limit and are no longer buying the fish anymore. Most of this is common knowledge by now I think, but I figured I'd write it down for anyone that wants to try their hand at trading.
  6. Looks pretty good (and cheap!), might pick one up. Thanks!
  7. Anyone able to recommend a decent HOTAS setup? I recently got the HTC Vive, and I want to dive into some simulators (DCS World, FSX, maybe even Elite Dangerous). I haven't had a HOTAS since the Saitek X-45 which I didn't like, so I'm wondering if anyone has one they actually like. Saitek X-56 has gotten bad reviews so that's probably out. Maybe a Warthog Thrustmaster or something, though I'd really like a Z-axis on the joystick and the Warthog doesn't have that.
  8. I have put 4 Low Grade Notes in the clan warehouse for whoever wants to craft me an Exceptional Rattlesnake Preferably Fir for speed. If you need any materials just place some crafting orders and I will make them.
  9. I've added the Trade Map feature to Navarch. This page allows you to see a map of all the ports in the game, and filter ports based on whether or not they produce/consume a certain resource. Blue rings indicate that port produces the item, green indicates that port consumes it. Click the port to see how much it consumes/produces. Still needs some work, loading may be slow initially as it has to download a lot of map data. Will be adding a few more features to it later, such as listing buy/sell prices for the resource in question, factoring in both port prices and player prices.
  10. Hopefully we can keep it up and I can get my trading routes back.
  11. They added tobacco, sugar, and salt. Along with fish meat, and food supplies. Time to do some trading! Wish I had stocked up on Rum beforehand... Edit: Tobaco, Sugar, and Salt are not profitable without selling to players (i.e. selling direct port to port results in a loss). So market will determine if any money can be made there. Edit 2: Tobacco will be most likely be very profitable in Kingston since it is required for medkits, and you can only buy small ones from the shop. Large and medium ones have to be crafted by players. Edit 3: Tobacco is profitable port-to-port in some cases (250g net profit per). navalactioncraft.com's data is wrong I think. Sugar and salt may be profitable too. Just have to find a port that is actually buying it and see. Edit 4: Sugar can be sold for 600 (200g net profit per). Still haven't found a port that wants to buy it yet though. Doesn't appear to be used in any crafting recipes, so player demand will probably be low/non-existant. Maybe will be used for something in a future patch? I am going to ramp up trading and production of tobacco. Half of it will go towards trades and the other half I will start depositing in the clan warehouse so we can all make medkits.
  12. Boss owns a diesel VW. We were talking about it a while back, and they did indeed offer to buy it back or repair it for free. Obviously "repairing" in this case means making it perform worse to get better emissions. Don't think he's decided, but he's probably going to just keep the one he has. If we were in California or something it'd be a different story.
  13. I've updated navarch.us to now support updating orders without completing them fully. This will allow someone to make the order partially and update it so someone else can finish it. Now when you click Complete Order you can specify the quantity that you made (defaults to full order quantity). If the quantity is less than the full order quantity, it will update the order and reopen it. Otherwise the order will be completed and closed. I've also added keyboard support to the quantity sliders. You can click the slider and then use the left and right arrow keys to move the quantity up/down slightly.
  14. Indiaman's second voyage completed with no troubles. 5456 Coal and 2408 Hemp deposited in Warehouse.
  15. Great work, make them Spaniards pay.
  16. He sails a pirate frigate as I recall. He has been hanging around KPR/Morant pretty frequently lately. A rattlesnake would help tag him assuming there are other friendlies nearby to engage. I try to keep my Trincomalee at Morant so I can intercept. Someone managed to catch him last night but I was too far away to help, hopefully they sunk the bastard.
  17. Due to an unfortunate navigational error on my part, I didn't have time to get the 2000 Hemp and 4800 Coal back to KPR before server reset. I'll have to do it tomorrow. I managed to somehow miss Ile-a-vache completely when sailing from Port Morant, and didn't realize it until I hit Sale-Trou. By the time I got back to Ile-a-vache, the wind was eastward. Whoops. Probably for the better though, Blackjack Morgan was sighted near KPR. I put 24 Cables & Howsers and 42 Small Carriages in the warehouse though.
  18. I've got about 1500 or so Hemp. Will try to bring it back to KPR with the Coal.
  19. Last I checked there was 5000 or so coal available at Jacmel (Hispaniola) for 23g per or so. I'll try to make a run tonight and see if its still there. For now I've deposited 2000 iron and 585 coal in the warehouse.
  20. I added Zeno's stuff manually and that's where he said it was It's fixed now, changed to Carlisle
  21. Done and done. It's so nice not having to spend 10 minutes figuring out what materials/resources etc I need and in what quantities.
  22. It will automatically show production buildings for anyone running the listener program on their PC. Otherwise you can update the Google Spreadsheet with your building information and I will add those manually. I've gone ahead and already added everyone with information in the spreadsheet.
  23. I don't recall seeing any British players nearby. I think his strategy is to wait for the wind to be directly west so he can approach Port Morant from the east at full speed. He then engages anything he sees, and afterward flees southward with the wind again. Some people tried to give chase when I exited the battle but could not catch him. I decided to try another attempt at sailing the Indiaman tonight. Not a whole lot of people were playing and I had heard of no pirate sightings. Made it to Port Antonio and back with no trouble carrying 1.8 million in cargo. I won't feel so bad if I happen to lose the Indiaman now as it has already paid for itself. Once I can fully crew it, it will be even better. It also just so happens they hotfixed the masts being papier-mâché last night. I guess I just sailed it 24 hours too early. I think I will buy myself a Trincomalee and set it up for PVP. It's time to return the favor to these pirates.
