  1. There has been an investigation into the DRAM price fixing I believe. It was back at the start of the year, not sure if they ever found anything conclusive. https://www.gamersnexus.net/industry/3186-chinese-government-investigating-dram-price-fixing-allegations
  2. Yeah stock is basically sold as fast as they get it in. You can still get cards for MSRP but you have to be quick and/or lucky. We bought three 1060 cards for our development PCs at work and it was a nightmare trying to get them. RAM and GPU prices are ridiculous now. Also I hope you are just using VGA as short hand for the graphics card and you aren't using a VGA cable on your shiny new 1070. If you are you need to get a better monitor that supports DVI-D or DisplayPort According to GPU Benchmarks you should see a noticeable increase in performance with the 1070 vs the 7970 I was going to pick up a GTX 1080 Ti Hybrid in late December. Then the Spectre/Meltdown shit happened so I held off. Within like two days the prices had skyrocketed to almost double. Should have just bought it when I had the chance.
  3. Yeah it sucks. There are most likely going to be more critical vulnerabilities exposed as time goes on. The 5-30% performance hit hurts, though that number depends entirely on what the CPU is actually doing. Gaming benchmarks have shown to have negligible differences, but anything accessing I/O could be slower including NVMe SSDs. What's funny is that even though AMD isn't affected by the worst of the vulnerabilities, the patches Microsoft is rolling out for it is rumored to apply to AMD CPUs as well, so they may also have the performance hit--even though they don't have the vulnerability. And if not, they may start to gain some market share as that could even the playing field a bit in regards to benchmarks. AMD has core counts on their side but worse single core performance, which is where Intel shines...but maybe not for much longer.
  4. We also setup a Thunderclap campaign. Basically it allows people to support us by linking to us on their social media when the campaign ends. If anyone has a Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr, please help us out! Doesn't cost a thing. https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/65980-prehistoric-kingdom
  5. Thanks guys! I am one of the programmers on the team. We now have an article on PCGamer: http://www.pcgamer.com/try-the-demo-for-dinosaur-park-sim-prehistoric-kingdom/ Also we will have a booth at PAX South in San Antonio TX this January! 21 days to go and we are just shy of the halfway mark.
  6. Hey guys, The Kickstarter is now live for the game me and some others have been working on for the past 1-2 years. I do not care if you guys back it, but if you could help spread the word I'd appreciate it. Anyone that enjoys city building or park building games would get a kick out of it. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1536990940/prehistoric-kingdom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgmDDBdX18g&t=238s You even get to see my ugly mug!
  7. Might have to dust off my Vive, it's been basically sitting on a shelf since I bought it...what, over a year ago now?
  8. Witcher 3, Prey, Shadow of Mordor, Total War Warhammer, GTA V and to a lesser extent, Dying Light, Dishonored 2, Tomb Raider All great singleplayer games (some also have multi), all heavily discounted. Pick them up if you haven't already! I definitely recommend Witcher, Prey, and Mordor, as well as GTA V if for some reason you haven't played that yet.
  9. That space elevator is nuts... my concern would be that it'd probably only work well on a local server, trying that on a dedicated server would probably cause it to randomly explode. I have to run SpaceEngineers to check out your scripts Custard. Can you post them somewhere like http://hastebin.com? Otherwise I'll try to check them out in the next few days.
  10. I'll probably give it another go. At least until I realize how much time I'm wasting in SE and have to rethink my life, which is usually what happens.
  11. Did you guys redeem your XP already or are you just messing around at low levels for now?
  12. That guy is nuts. Although this one is actually designed to scale cliffs, it'd be just as terrifying I think.
  13. A couple of us play it. EMT plays it the most. It is decent, can be frustrating at times.
  14. I'm good with British or US. Any other nation is going to have a lot of non-English speakers which could complicate things. Though I'm willing to go with whatever you guys want.
  15. Yeah fun times. Pretty sure WannaCry is the cause of all of our Windows 2003 servers bluescreening the past few weeks--fun fact, WannaCry is pretty terrible, coding wise, and can't actually infect XP/2003 based machines, and will instead either do nothing or cause bluescreens. So not sure if that is what was causing our issues, but it makes sense. So I blocked the SMB ports on our firewall and we have started up new Windows 2012 servers to replace the aging machines.
  16. They even can automate this now. It's called The Jolly Roger phone. Its sole purpose is to waste the time of telemarketers as long as it possibly can. This is a bot, not an actual person talking to the telemarketer. It is fantastic.
  17. I got the Vive when it came out. I only used it about a week though. It's just too much of a hassle to work with, and I don't have a lot of empty room near my computer tower. There was also the issue with it being new and not having a lot of VR titles to play.
  18. I never played System Shock 2 but I have heard multiple people compare Prey to that game. So I imagine you won't be disappointed.
  19. Beat the game last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Will be replaying it again with a different playstyle this time.
  20. Yes. It is a single-player immersive storyline game similar to Half-Life/Bioshock/Dishonored/etc. I wouldn't call it an RPG or anything cause there is no experience gain or some such.
  21. Prey came out 4 days ago. I knew next to nothing about it going in, it was an impulse by going purely by screenshots. Do yourself a favor and play it. If you liked Half Life 2, or BioShock, or Dishonored, or Portal, or any of those style of immersive storyline games, you will love Prey. Definitely my favorite game of 2017 thus far. Haven't enjoyed a game this much since Witcher 3. I've been playing it non-stop all weekend, and will probably *replay* it a second time with a different skillset. If you know me at all, I can give no game higher praise than that. I don't want to reveal too much because I think experiencing it first-hand is best, but I will say it is a sci-fi esque game that takes place in a space station. And while it can have jump scares occasionally, it is not a "do everything to scare the player" horror game like Dead Space or others. http://store.steampowered.com/app/480490/Prey/ Note: You will probably need a decent gaming rig to play it.
  22. Is the consensus that we will be moving to the Global server? Is this verified to be the current US PVP server? I'm fine with whatever, so if you guys wanted to just stay on the EU-only server (which is the current EU server as I recall) I'd be OK with that. My fear is someone will come back to Naval Action later on who did not do a battle this month on the US server and will have lost all their stats.
  23. Ha good stuff. I don't watch British television much but I do catch the odd episode of QI, Would I Lie to You, or The Big Fat Quiz of the Year on YouTube. They are usually pretty entertaining (for panel shows), though it depends on who they have on the show. Generally, if David Mitchell is on the show I know it'll probably be good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6vLp07ZePY Best (somewhat) modern British TV show I can think of though is The IT Crowd. Which is conveniently all on Netflix. No one comes close to Monty Python though. Black Sails is a great show. The finale was fantastic. If you aren't past season 1 yet, just wait.
