  1. It was a great run.. thanks to all for coming out and kickin butt with us...
  2. Wikipedia: Three models of interpreting the right to bear arms in the United States commonly exist. These three models are founded on differing interpretations of the Second Amendment, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." The first two models focus on the preamble, or "purpose" clause, of the Amendment ? the words "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State." The first model, the collective model, holds that the right to bear arms belongs to the people collectively rather than to individuals, because the right's only purpose is to enable states to maintain a militia. The second model, the modified collective model, is similar to the first. It holds that the right to keep and bear arms exists only for individuals actively serving in the militia, and then only pursuant to such regulations as may be prescribed.[55] The third model, the Individual Rights Model, holds that a right of individuals is to own and possess firearms, much as the First Amendment protects a right of individuals to engage in free speech.[55] This view was adoped by the Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008). Prior to the Supreme Court's ruling in Heller there was a split among the federal courts, with nine of the federal circuit courts of appeal supporting a modified collective rights view, two of the federal circuits supporting an individual rights view, and one federal circuit court having not addressed the question.[56] Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia in 2008 wrote that the right to bear arms is not unlimited and is subject to reasonable prohibitions and regulations and subsequently federal court rulings have upheld existing gun prohibitions and regulations.[57] Nadine Strossen, President of the ACLU, has stated the argument that the Individual Rights model must yield to reasonable regulation.[58] "Let?s assume for the sake of argument it does protect an individual right," said Strossen, "it is no more absolute than freedom of speech or any other right in the Constitution. No right is absolute; the government is always allowed to restrict the right if it can satisfy Constitutional strict scrutiny and show the restriction is narrowly tailored to promote a goal of compelling importance."[59] At the state level, each of the fifty state constitutions, state laws, and state courts address the state-based right to bear arms distinctly within their respective jurisdictions.[60] The degree and the nature of the protection, prohibition, and regulation at the state level varies from state to state. The District of Columbia, not being a state, falls within the federal jurisdiction. In the Nineteenth century, in the United States, considerable attention in public discourse and the courts was directed to the issue of the risks of arming of slaves (prior to the Civil War), and later to the right of the Negro people to belong to militia and the arming of the Negro people. Most famously this is seen in the court arguments of the court case Dred Scott v. Sandford, whether the slave Dred Scott could be a citizen, with rights, including the right to bear arms. This debate about the rights of slaves and former slaves often included the usage of the term 'bear arms' with the meaning of individual Negroes having or not having the right to possess firearms. In October 2001, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit stated: "there are numerous instances of the phrase 'bear arms' being used to describe a civilian's carrying of arms. Early constitutional provisions or declarations of rights in at least some ten different states speak of the right of the 'people' [or 'citizen' or 'citizens'] "to bear arms in defense of themselves [or 'himself'] and the state,' or equivalent words, thus indisputably reflecting that under common usage 'bear arms' was in no sense restricted to bearing arms in military service."[61][62] The Emerson decision was consistent with a view of Constitutional interpretation known by its principal advocates[63] as the "Standard Model" view, and alternatively referred to as the "Individualist view".[40][64] There is some dispute whether the "individualist view" predates the collective "militia view" in American jurisprudence. Some assert[who?] the "militia view" first appeared only in the early to mid 1990s.[65][66] A contrasting opinion asserts[who?] the militia view long predates the individualist view, with the individualist view dating back to only 1960.[40][67][68] In the late twentieth (20th) century, gun advocates argued[69] that the term 'keep and bear arms' means and has meant keeping and bearing private arms for self defense or hunting purposes. The 1986 TV film The Right of the People refers to this for self-defense against crime. [70] The Second Amendment of the United States has also been viewed by many private Americans, including those who are part of the modern militia movement as providing a means for resisting governmental tyranny, also known as the "insurrectionary theory of the Second Amendment". The modern militia movement in the United States has sought to advance its case through selective quoting on websites and publications the words of the founding fathers, though the accuracy of these quotations has been debated. What is notable is that the quotations generally align not with the Federalist Framers, but rather with the Anti-Federalist objectors to the Constitution. People sympathetic with the modern militia movement object to this analysis.[71][72]
  3. I wasnt planning on playing GR again...I asked if anyone was interested in another game but then my topic got derailed so I just removed the original question. If people want to play GR they surely dont need me to tell them to play. Morgan
  4. Original content removed. Yeah GR is good. probably a better idea. Have fun with it. Morgan

  7. Congrats on the job.. looks like a really amazing opportunity. Yeah, it would be nice if you could say 'hi spartans' but if you are pressed for time 'hi morgan' would probably be easier to say, you know....;-) Best of luck with the new gig...!!

  9. My hat goes off to Susan Boyle, the brit singer who is currently impressing the world via Youtube! However, my fave singer in the whole world is smart and pretty and supremely talented, and most important to me: My daughter... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5zfa6rX8NY...re=channel_page (Video quality is a bit dodgy but the sound isnt too bad... phone cam and all) Her mom gave her up for adoption some 20 years ago now and we were recently re-united. I am in awe of her talents. Morgan <-- uber proud dad.
  10. Quick update to my original post: I stuck my toes gently into server 4. *gulp* It was glorious. Xwind and I tippy toed to a hilltop where I learned to do basic spotting and how to call out coords... Im thinking of ninja-changing his name to Eagle Eye....or maybe ...Hubble... he was finding snipers where I could only see the tiniest of grey blobs. Was that grey pixel a sniper? Never knew until it fell over dead and Xwind would say 'he's down'. We snuck through town, found the objective, blew it up..it was just a great time. Didnt fare quite so well on the 2nd objective... but considering we were only two (well, 1.5 considering my exprience level) of us I thought we did a miraculous job of getting as far as we did. Scariest moment for me was looking down beside me and seeing an armed satchel charge sitting there (Id been moving some stuff around in my ruck)...yikes! Didnt know if it was ticking and waiting to go off or not but I found the 'disarm' command and all was well... but those may have been the longest 3 seconds of my life... Ive fixed the mouse issues I was having so this was uber-easier to play...the only thing I worry about now is the lack of crosshairs. Ive never played that way in any shooter before so thats gonna take some learning I suppose. We had a contact pop around a corner, right across the lane and I popped off a couple of wild shots but Xwind nailed him and saved the day. Thats when I realized the crosshair problem.. hahahah. Otherwise it was a grand and fun time... can't wait to do it again with some more Spartans... Morgan
  11. Hello, my name is Zathrus and I'm a nade-a-holic.
  12. I connected to the ArmA server 3 with some trepidation last night... but my goals for my first night of ArmA'ing were fairly simple: 1. Learn the very basics. I wanted to be able to shoot an enemy, reload, and so on...I think I did that pretty well. 2. Dont embarass myself Here I just wanted to not die too much and more importantly not cause anyone get killed. Did alright here too I think. I've played through the tutorial missions and walked around a bit in the SP campaign so I was passingly familiar with the environments. What i wasnt expecting was the flat out awesomeness of playing coop to that level... this is exactly what I have been looking for, for years now. Awesome is an extremely over used word these days, but I honestly can't think o0f anything more appropriate. My biggest surprise came from the realism... running around as a medic with bandages, and morphine and the other stuff I cant spell. Examining my patients, and even being able to drag a body around to safety. I am in medic heaven... My 2nd biggest surprise came from being jumped by an enemy tank. Yes, we got jumped (almost literally) by a tank 'from nowhere'.. all of a sudden it just seemed to be there. It was freaky awesome... The best part though, after we recovered a little was seeing the tank crew jump out and wax us again. Some big lessons learned in those 30 or so seconds of terror. Creeping along the beach, pausing to scope out the town and the area around it... hugely fun.. even found some armor we could drop arty on. Now admittedly I didnt do a lot.... I capped a couple of bad guys and drove around an APC command thing... but I did get to med a few people and did my best to back up my team members. Crapload of learning to do, but I am really looking forward to it. My new uber machine should help with some play issues (mouse related) and I hope to be able to ArmA a lot more in the future. I wont be server 4 ready for awhile... but one day soon... Special uber thanks to Medic and X-wind for getting me going... it was a lot of work for you guys, I know, but the wait was sure worth it. Id be happy to join any server 3 runs that might come along so keep me in mind! Morgan
  13. Saw a fairly good overview/review on Xplay here in Canada. The game looks terrific. Cant wait to try it. It got a very good report on XPlay...

    ArmA Setup

Luck would be nice...I think I found most of the files but this setup is uber confusing. The setup page says to get arma mod 1.00... got that. The setup page says to not get the full 1.01 setup, but to get the 1.01 beta patch. There is no 1.01 beta patch, the version on the page provided is 1.02 and the full setup version is 1.05 not 1.01. I am supposed to get the MapFact Editor and mapfact. I found Mapfact Editor but the other link provided goes to something called Map Services. The setup page says the server is at ACE 1.06b but the highest version of ACE mod on their page is 1.05... and we arent supposed to use that. *boggle* Morgan
