  1. Sounds like you definitely want to move to a full tower (as Medic suggested).. only thing to keep in mind when you are building full tower sized rigs is that the drives in the highest slots may need custom cables due to the extra distance from the motherboard. Found that out the hard way a few years back... You would also want a really uber power supply for all the extra devices, I am sure the folks here could give you a good idea of the range for multiple drives and peripherals. Best of luck!
  2. Vista installed easy. Installing almost anything else has been a nightmare.
  3. Ok Ive had enough of this Vista nonsense. 8.5 hours of wrestling, grappling, installing, uninstalling, modifying, editing through 15 Freelancer and Mod installs pushed me past my tolerance point. I am upgrading to Windows 7 tonight when I get home, so I probably wont be on for gaming. The XP layer in W7 should serve me a lot better than this Vista crap. Wish me luck...
  4. Those are some seriously kewl screenies... nice job! Cant wait for another run...
  5. Get the All-In-One package from the Sparta Downloads area and unzip it into the Arma root folder. (C:\Program Files\Atari\ArmA\ ) Once you have that done, install the ACE mod updates to bring you from 1.06 to 1.08. Read the "All In One Available" htread in the Arma forum for more details about the setup. Once you are patched and up to date with the ACE mods you will be ready to rock. ArmA server 3 will be your friend during your noob period. 3 allows for multiple respawns, revives and so on and is a more relaxed casual atmospehere. Good to learn in. TIP: When I was new to the game I would login to server 4 and spectate games in progress. Sittin on TeamSpeak watching and listening was a great way to learn some basics of squad movement and cohesiveness. No, not very exciting to sit for a couple hours just watching other people play, but it paid off in the long run, I think. Once you have control basics down and have a feeling for how the missions are run on server 4 (much more rigid rule structure on 4) then pile on to 4 with us and run some missions. There is a significant difference in the rulesets for 3 and 4... 4 is very disciplined squad play with no idle chatter or joking around, while 3 is a bit more relaxed and less stringently tactical. Hope to see you running missions soon!
  6. Umm.. the point of the game is to make money... much like EVE. More money, better ships. Better ships, more fun blowing up tougher opponents. Having piles of cash would ruin all the fun of having goals to work towards. Not really a hack..just a good trade route...
  7. HOLY CRAP! Nice run Zath! Cant wait to give this a whirl...
  8. A few years back I worked in an office building where a memorial obelisk had been built to honor the fallen veterans (in all wars) who came from the town I was working in. It had plaques for each of the major wars listing the individuals who had given their lives. Now, I've spent a goodly portion of my years feeling somewhat cycnical about our societies and the general apathy that seemed to be so apparent..particularly in regards to our cultural heros. At any rate, I went out for a quick smoke one day. I was seated on a bench some 20 yards from the memorial. After 10 or 15 mins I spotted a couple of young kids approaching the memorial. A young boy, walked by, toting along a little girl by the hand. The young girl broke her brothers grasp and ran up to the memorial, with dolly clutched tightly in her other hand (much to her brothers apparent horror). She began skipping and jumping around the base of the memorial obelisk, until her brother sprinted over, grabbed her by the hand and pulled her back from the memorial. Both were oblivous to my presence nearby. Now, keep in mind that the little boy couldnt have been much more than 8 or 9 years old, the sister...probably 6 or 7. I paused in my smoking, and watched as the young boy turned and admonished his sister (rather severely, as older brothers tend to do).. "Stop that!" he said sternly. "Don't you know important this is?" he asked the girl, obviously horrified at her antics. "This is where the soldiers who died for us are, you dont play here, they are heros!". With that, he stepped back 3 paces, saluted smartly and after a moment grabbed his sisters hand and they ran off to whatever the days adventures would bring, giggling and skipping away.... leaving me there to marvel at what Id just seen. Do the kids today know and understand what it is that you do? Yup, they do. I honor our war heros in my own way, so I wont pontificate on this further here... except to say I felt quite honored to have experienced that exchange. It gave me hope for the future, and for our society as a whole.
  9. Im too scared to post a caption.
  10. Great map... X-Wind and I were ooh-ing and aah-ing over it the other night. Spectacular views all around, and quite deadly too... So far Ive really enjoyed running missions in that environment.
  11. Nope... prices remain as theya re, pretty much for eternity...
  12. Once I mount the ISO I might be able to copy the files and folders out of the ISO tree onto my normal hard drive and run the setup.exe from C: rather than my virtual drive. That would bypass the 'cant find setup.exe' error prolly... will have to try it when I get home tonight.
  13. Extract what? To where? There is nothing to extract, its an ISO. I cant see the setup files until it is mounted on a virtual drive. How do I extract an ISO? I have no tools to do that but have never had issues running programs from ISO's before.
  14. No, must have a version! No resting for me... just need a non-ISO version I think. I may also try a different virtual drive program.
  15. I dont have a CD to burn it to... the whole point of having the virtual drive is to emulate a cd by mounting the ISO image as if it were a CD. When I try to run the Setup, it says 'cannot find the Setup.exe' or it says 'cannot install in this version of Windows'. Not sure what to do about that.
  16. Hit a snag with Freelancer but otherwise the update is going well. Only roadblock now is getting CoD5 (has to wait til next weekend) and making sure the new vid card supports it. ArmA looks awesome on the new monitor...so much better than the old.
  17. Freelancer wont install on mmy 64 bit system. Using an ISO I 'acquired' somewhere mounted on a virtual cd drive for the install. SO, got ArmA going but this may not be fixable due to the age of the game. Gonna see if I can get a workaround somewhere.
  18. Just installed up to 1.16 and its rockin nicely! Thanks for the info's...tonight I will finish the All-In-One setup...
  19. Wow.. 720 Million and still not up to Dreadnought level...I better start saving up... Nice stats!
  20. Yeah caught that in the ArmA thread. Gonna continue adding patches and see how it goes...
  21. Im at v1.06 at the moment, so this is hopeful... Back to installing....
  22. This is the issue I am having. Not taking out RAM though so my Arma days may be numbered.
  23. ArmA is not playing nice. Trouble shooting and hoping for the best...
  24. lol I will see what I can find... tell ya what though...this 22" monitor is frickin crazy awesome....I love it. Got dual 22's at work but what a difference here at home....Im gonna be likin this!
