  1. If you mean battery duration, days on a full charge, a lot less if climbing a steep mountain. That's why I wanted to build these vehicles, on a high G world it might be more efficient than flying. I just need the mats to build a wind generator tower then I can stop and recharge.
  2. I am not sure whats really going on here but I am very interested to see what you come up with. For my part I have developed an idea we discussed regarding suspension mounted to a central spine. We talked about having the "Base" be seperate so that it could be mounted via a merge block. This is the base with all refinery and assembler etc. Here is the mobile element, much lighter now (around 420,000kg) and able to climb mountains. Here is a closer view of the cab, connecter and merge block Finally, here it is connected. The advantage is the greater mobility offered by the reduced weight The problem is projections don't work for anything after the rotor so the arms and bogies would have to be hand built, this isn't a problem for me in survival but makes the design less accessible to others.
  3. I made a bunch of changes to the vehicle (including narrowing the bogie track) and got the weight down to around 500,000 kg. Now it can get to the top. It can climb at ridiculous angles without toppling due to its wide base. .
  4. Inspired by Adder, I have been looking into using bogies connected with more articulation than I have used so far. So I built a basic bogie and tried to drive it up the mountain. Lo and behold it got to the top (suspension at 15%) I then built a base vehicle using 4 of these with 2 axis articulation suspended from the top of the base on another rotor. As you can see it is capable of adapting to the terrain. With that said I have not made it to the top with this design.....yet!
  5. I tweaked the small block rover and made it to the top It went up quickly but did get hooked up a few times requiring a bit of course adjustment. Since I am happy with this I gave it some cosmetic tweaks
  6. Its certainly been interesting! Adder I thought of this wheel configuration to give your Bogies a narrower profile. Obviously there is some sacrifice. Following our chat about small block rovers I created this It was quite successful but it eventually got stuck in a ravine.
  7. It was looking good until the accident!
  8. I enjoyed Testing vehicle type with you Adder and congrats again for getting your design to the top of the mountain. I am going to give your scissor suspension some thought. For now I have settled on three basic designs. This is the one that climbed the mountain with relative ease. It is a concept test vehicle and can be "filled out" The next one is a full size base vehicle that can also climb but not as easily as the first. The last is another base ship that is versatile and robust but cannot climb mountains I tried to publish them again today but failed, I do not understand why! I am so glad they got the land vehicles working better, this is the most fun I have had with this game.
  9. I manually adjust the torque, I found the script created a rocking horse motion. Congrats on getting to the top of the mountain with your vehicle!
  10. I tried to publish the vehicle in the workshop but it kept failing.
  11. Thanks, I will do, I just need to finish experimenting.
  12. This is the latest iteration for this vehicle. It has a combination of small and big wheels. It has quite good climbing ability.
  13. I have continued to experiment with suspension configurations using rotors. I modified one of my ships using a simple rocker suspension, it works quite well. Then I tried a hybrid version using a two axis front assembly and a suspended assembly for the rest. It carries its own driller/welder on the rear deck. This is the front wheel set with fore and aft and lateral movement So far this and the fully suspended vehicle are the most capable. There are a few more ideas I want explore. 2200 hours still not bored!
  14. I would be very happy for you to do this.
  15. That does work thanks, however the design is a little distracting. Good job you found this because it doesn't generate enough power to bother with.
  16. Adder I have an idea for you. Would it be possible to create a mod where windows act as solar panels. I seem to remember reading about this possibility so it seems reasonable to add it to the game, what do you think? Here is the latest iteration of the suspended vehicle It has an open rear deck for landing utility ships. Finally it does party tricks I lowered Bigfoot to give it a lower centre of gravity and a wider stance, since it fell over once. I also simplified the Rotor suspension to a rocker movement with a 20 degree range (+10 to -10). I experimented with this suspension on another vehicle and it's quite robust.
  17. Thanks Adder I will take a look at that also. Firstly your mobile base is epic, mine is barely bigger than one of the bogies, incredible. I added some finishing touches to the suspended Vehicle. this is the first version of this, I have a plan for an improved version. When we chatted we talked about mirroring the Leading and Trailing arms so I came up with this. Finally We talked about this system using 5x5 Wheels. Initially I tried using the same format as above, but the wheels dwarf the structure, As a first cut I mounted the leading and trailing arms on a centre spine. Eventually I will build a wider body to improve the proportions. Th reason I adopted the rotor suspension was to increase the range of suspension travel so that these mobile bases could 1. climb out of the lake bed and 2. truly be able to roam a planet surface. So far these can all achieve the first objective.
  18. I have been practicing creating a torsion suspension for my vehicles using rotors. The leading and trailing wheel sets are mounted on rotors at 90 degrees to the vehicle and the 6 inner wheels are suspended on rotors in line with its axis. The objective is to maintain more contact with the ground., This vehicle can climb out of the lake bed almost anywhere. At the moment it uses a script that allows me to use wheels on the otherside of the rotors (which you cannot normally do). I have to manage the torque setting manually. Adder has put me onto another script to manage the torque automatically. Scripts Whips Subgrid Wheel Control Script https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1471585938&searchtext=Rotor+Torsion+Spring Torsion Spring https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1471585938&searchtext=Rotor+Torsion+Spring
  19. I watch these guys repair a variety of salvage cars. Here someone has condensed the entire rebuild of a Lamborghini Huracan into 12 minutes. It's quite impressive.
  20. For a more balanced documentary on this episode in history watch the 24 hours war on Amazon Prime.
