  1. Have a good trip and no worries for the forum debrief.
  2. No-one who played on sunday has a lot of experience. So we'll muddle along helping each other out. In reality you guys with OGR experience are the better candidates for leadership roles. However we should probably take turns so as not to burden the same people all the time. I can use the excel rand function to choose a player. But if no-one puts their hand up next time I will take lead. On the whole the problem with AAR's is they focus on the negative. Overall the game was well executed. Good effort, could do better as all my teachers used to say. Re the Bridge, I was lucky you asked me to cover the right flank, mind you maybe i should have turned when everyone to my left copt it, lol. PS A final thought, I think it may be better to make notes after the mission and just chat about the areas of weakness, what do you guys think.
  3. I am happy for your friend. As to the how hard can it be comment, well 2 people died trying it. They were both younger and fitter than me.
  4. There isnt a review on cnet, but thanks
  5. A projector would be cheaper, I will consider it. But does anyone know about plasmas and this one in particular.
  6. A shop near me has a Samsung PS63P76fd 63" plasma screen I dont know anything about plasmas. This TV is primarily for watching movies played via a PC Does anyone know if its any good (its about 4000 euros).
  7. I should clarify that I do believe we need a Standard Operating Procedure as well, but it needs to be simple and generic. I have no military experience and am a novice at tactical shooters (a novice to online gaming actually). So I will accept the wisdom of those with more experience. This is a game and as such the AI are bound by the rules of programming. Viiiper told me yesterday that the AI have zones of awareness, Obviously the visual zone is conical but the AI are limited to 200 or so metres. A loose shot, particularly a miss, can penetrate the zones of awareness of mulitple patrols. Since you never want to engage more than one patrol at a time and even then only on your terms, I can see the danger of loose shots. A specific deficiency on Sunday was poor use of the map to illustrate where we were going. Before we started we should all have been looking at the map and the lead should have marked on the map the waypoints and if neccesary the targets. This needs to be done after every engagement. We should all know how to do this. Also the lead changed, initially it was Dai-san, after the barn it was Vii, then it reverted back to Dai. Whoever is lead should remain lead until he's taken out. The Barn clearing wasnt coordinated initially. The last town wasnt cleared before elementsof the squad advanced to attack targets at the bridge. Attacking the bridge with a known enemy patrol to our rear is unsound. Dai helped clear the town, but the squad was split. It shouldnt have been. After a couple of hours I notice that the squad cohesion falls apart, this is true for the 2 missions I have participated in. Maybe we should just stop after 2 hours and take a break.
  8. A few thoughts, 1. Despite comments to the contrary, playing together as a team will, overtime, result in improved play. Simply because the cause of failure will slowly be reduced or eliminated. The first mission I participated in went really well and represented a huge step forward for us. Obviously subsequent improvements will get progressively smaller. 2. There were only two loose shots yesterday, I was responsible for one of them. A simple check fire is sufficient to stop us from continuing to fire. Frankly 2 loose shots in hours of play isnt bad, but it isnt zero. 3. We are all happy to improve our technique of game play, but if I dont enjoy a game ultimately I wont play. So we need to share knowledge in such a manner that players will want to play. Players should not feel intimidated. 4. Yesterday's mission was spoilt by the respawn. I feel that no respawns leads to far tighter play. If we had restarted after losing several players we would have improved our play. It also would have eliminated my grotesque error of forgetting to kneel when arriving back from the respawn area. 5. Command structure. I have no problem following a plan, however if I feel there is an alternate, I feel its ok to present the idea if the circumstances permit (ie not being shot at at the time), it can be rejected or accepted by the team leader. If we feels its wrong I will refrain from presenting alternatives.
  9. I am avidly waiting for it to be posted no sign yet.
  10. Hi Buddy you do not need any mods to join the server and you will be more than welcome.
  11. Sorry guys I had to get some sleep, 0300 is way too late for me.
  12. I hear you Thoms, I stopped skiing when I put on weight, to protect my knees. I have never had a major knee injury apart from a dislocation at school (which I reset myself). Knees never recover. The mountain is off for this year but its a delay not a cancellation, lol.
  13. I was going to post a detailed response, but instead I will simply say that we did well and that if we continue playing together we will do better.
  14. I noticed we had a few "casualties" around the dinner bell, lol. In my case I wish I was more observant, I died circling the town and crossing a small encampment in the hill. I had approached unnoticed since I had got there on my belly. I saw only one enemy immobile prone and with his back to me. I decided to shoot him, but his body hid another slightly lower down the hill, I did manage to get him but there were 4 and I was quickly outflanked. On a seperate note any time the snipers have to recon inside 200m you are better off using an assualt recon team, IMO. At the oilfields the sniping position was compromised by the shilkas and BMP, even if it was out of sequence I think it was right to take out the armour. Changing our position wouldnt have helped since the armour patrolled aggressiviely. The last objective was the hardest, but maybe the survivors managed it, I had to go to bed.
  15. I worked on that for 4 weeks. 200kg, 300kg, 350kg were all pretty easy. At 400kg I sat in the machine prepared myself, took in huge lungfuls of air and then pushed my legs up really hard. Nothing.. it didnt come off the stops. But my friends in the gym, actually everyone in the gym came around and cheered me on. At all the lower weights they just shot up. This time they went really slowly but once they started to move I knew I could do it and ended up doing 5 reps. I thought about working to 1000lbs but thought I was working towards an injury. As it was I still did a 1 hour workout afterwards.. I am disproportionately strong in my legs, which is the only reason I would consider doing Mt. Ventoux. Sadly my arms are not proportionally as strong as my legs and the most I have ever benched (although I did that at 50 as well) was 242 lbs (110 kg). In my gym my leg press was the record weight for a non steroid/testosterone boosted individual. The record was 800kg 0r 1,760lbs. He benched such big weights all our heavy bars were curved.
  16. Enjoyed the game, we lasted a long time before losing anyone. It was nearly 03:00 when I was killed. I am sure there will be a harsh debreif, but good fun.
  17. LOL, I may be an old fart Ulrich, but I have been going to the gym for years, I have done 880 lb leg presses (400kg) when I was 50, my quads are very strong, not so the calf muscles. The ache came from mispositioning the foot due to different pedal set up. But thanks for the concern, its warranted, I'm actually very protective of my knees.
  18. This was unscheduled, if you like tonight after the GRNet event winds down we can see if anyone is up for a mission. I have since found out there are 2 crates and 2 m107's, we will need to load the hmmvs with alternates since with ammo is limited.
  19. The 2 games I played the most in single player were, ghost recon and C&C zero hour. In GR I played every mission from all the expansion packs about 8 times. I really enjoyed zero hour as well. I discovered this online gaming malarky by accident in 2005 when GRAW came out.
  20. Ok I ordered my bike today, an MBK RTB600.It has a 50, 39, 30 chain ring and 11-25 rear set (30gears), I may change the low gear to 27 (the biggest the rear derailleur can take). I am also looking into changing the 30 to a 28. In France the have three main types of bike Velo course - racing Bike Velo tout terrain - Mountain bike Velo tout chemin - I think they are know as Hybrids. Mine is in the latter and RTB stands for road training bike. I should have my new bike early next week. When I train in switzerland I use a Trek mountain Bike, last week I did some interval training up a short hill near me a couple of times. I went out for a 4 1/2 hour ride with the shop keeper and an old gym friend and they took me to one of the steepest inclines in the region (18%). Although it doesnt last very long (2 bends on a hill) He told me if I could do this I should be able to climb anywhere. It was excrutiatingly difficult but I managed to do it on a mountain bike I had borrowed from him, so thats encouraging. I had an unusual ache on the side of my right knee, but that has gone, he said this may have come from the narrower pedals he had fitted to the bike. Despite this I will not be in good enough shape for the climb anywhere near my birthday and later in the year the mountain is often closed, so this project may be pushed to May next year.
  21. Custard and I had a field day there, but I didnt cover him so well, I'll do better nex time.
  22. Are you talking about EVO, There are a couple of towns with fantastic overwatch mountains, the radio tower east of bagango being one of my favourites.
  23. I agree. On a seperate note I discovered the Mk12 is inconsistent at longer ranges, I hate banging off rounds, too high, correct, too low, correct, too high etc etc..... If I did this mission again and if the M107 were unavailable I would take the M24 which will do a decent job, the problem is you can then only carry half the rounds of the M107. It was good to finish a mission even though we used 49 lives to do so.
  24. I might be able to create a simple thing we can all play
