  1. Oh dear... You REALLY didn't try hard enough mate. If you don't scrub at least 1 set of tyres on a track day you should get your money back
  2. My comments about the map are aimed purely as a training aid or an extra asset. In this mode the map is available and is a HUGE asset for planning and squad movement, I would advise not moving on from this mode until your regulars get used to moving at a consistent speed and spacing (Which can be checked with the map). On the tactical server we don't have this facility but use the freelook (TrackIR is fantastic) to move with our squad, pausing and checking spacing/grouping as we go. But this is a hard discipline to learn and maintain and while you have the benefit of the map to assist then all I'm saying is USE IT Also people need to get used to covering FIRE ARCs. This is one of the most basic disciplines and it is very frustrating to look around when the squad stops and see almost everyone facing the same way, or just milling about. Squad movement 101: When you stop, you (the squad as a whole) form a 360 arc of fire, even when in supposed friendly territory (waiting for evac/orders etc). All of these thing only require one thing, practice, and these Friday nights are a great step in that direction and I applaud all involved in planning and executing this move.
  3. Great games last night, Everyone did a blinding job seeing as this is a huge learning curve involving players of all levels and playing styles. Squad lead was a bit hectic what with comms from my squad and from Bravo and Durka often cancelling eachother out. I also find it hugely frustrating that the sound options in this game are so limited and you cant independently adjust the vehicle volume. (once in or near a helo then TS is drowned out totally). One point of note though, people need to make more use of the map as an assist for squad movement. I assume this is a legacy from my GR days but basically anytime I move with a squad I take a real quick peek at the map to see where I am in the formation (or where I need to be to fill gaps) and I do a regular map check to make sure I'm not to far ahead/behind/distant from my squad. It really is a great way to make sure your squad moves in a decent formation as you can keep a nice squirmish line with decent spacing. Overall though it was a great night and hopefully I didn't confuse my squad too much ;) Anyone get a screenshot of all them BRAVO x's in the first game. I seem to recall looking at the map and seeing almost your entire squad down
  4. I need 5 people for a final shakedown of a mission on the TACTICAL ArmA2 server. THIS IS NOT TACTICAL DOMINATION! Anyone is welcome to play I will just use the first 5 people to post here. This is a TACTICAL mission with 1 revive and NO RESPAWN. There are NO VEHICLES either. The reason I keep emphasising the point is I don't want people to be disappointed and leave after 15 mins because they can't fly helo's or drive tanks. This is a small Spec Ops squad mission with the emphasis on stealth and co-ordination. If there is the interest this will take place at 20:00 GMT tonight (30/08), please be available on comms by 19:30 for briefing and server password etc. If the interest is great enough I can add more slots to the mission but am unsure how unbalanced this will make it. Hope to see you there.
  5. Lol, I think you'll have to try harder than that, after all, it's a bunch of people from different squads, games and play-styles your trying to co-ordinate. I have no doubt that with the likes of Durka, yourself and help from people like Lighty, Tinker and the TEK guy's it will come good though.
  6. On a more serious note, as Medic or Halli or any other old school GR player would agree, it's because we are really used to a more structured and tactical use of comms etiquette. Like the 12-10 Mark 5 grid ref thing I showed people, GR was played for so long that SOP's were well established and time proven. I'm sure ArmA2 will develop it's own comms style, but in the meantime I and many others find it very frustrating to hear all the useless chatter and to see people that have been given CLEAR instructions go wandering off putting the rest of the team as well as the mission at risk.
  7. Bout time you showed your face Hi Toni
  8. A couple of things though: 1: They are saying about being able to see more to the left and right, this is true, but you can do the same on a flat screen by increasing the FOV and tbh that looks to be what they have done anyway judging by the stretched cars, weapons etc. 2: If that IS how they achieve the effect then be very careful because most major online games, if played competitively, will kick you if your FOV is over a certain level due to the unfair advantage this gives.
  9. Watch and learn, we played a lot with TEK in GR and I know Tinker plays with them on the Alpasquad server on a regular basis. They are a great bunch and play very well. Always polite and will do anything to help out.

    A simple job

TAC Squad stand to. I have a simple job for you @ 20:00 GMT. X-Wind, Morgan, Custard and Durka, you are excluded from command on this occasion but are more than welcome to participate in the job itself. Hopefully I will see some of you this evening. Dai out! Sorry, gonna have to make this 21:00 GMT instead, running late.
  11. Any more feedback on 1.03 before I bother updating?
  12. ArmA server 1.03 seems to be there, just scroll down a bit.
  13. Cheers Tink, we'll download em and give em a try. Looking forward to it.
  14. Many Happy Returns Kiwi Seems like there's a distinct lack of pictures here compared to other birthday threads
  15. This is a must have if you want to really get to grips with the weapons in ArmA. Target Range
  16. Absolutely awsome... I miss this series so much, I still have it installed and this game was my online bread and butter.
  17. People may (or not) want to take a look at this piece of software. I have never used this particular software myself but used a similar piece of software called Advanced Tactical Centre quite effectively when planning missions in Ghost Recon. It's basically a networked whiteboard that allows participants to add plans/waypoints/icons etc to the map and work out strategies before the game starts. If your interested take a look here XTAC
  18. Very nice mate, looks great.
