  1. I have the medusa 5.1's they are great. Watch out for the sub setting though, it actually vibrates the headset, which shit the life outta me the first time an explosion went off.
  2. The Friday night TACTICAL Missions will be postponed for now.
  3. OK, so Friday night seems to be the favourite so let's roll with it for now. So what I'm proposing is we give it a bash THIS Friday evening (that's the 25th of September) at 20:00 BST (British Summer Time). What I need from you guy's is some suggestions of missions you might have played or fancy playing (so I can upload them to the server) or if not then I will choose something. Also Someone to step forward and Lead the Mission. Once we decide on a mission I will post up a briefing and we can open a discussion on tactics etc. Also we can talk about TS etiquette etc. Comments/suggestions?
  4. The cap is still there, it is a restriction of 32bit and will not be sorted afaik.
  5. I've been running Windows 7 32bit Retail for a few weeks now and it seems nice and stable. As with all new OS's and Program versions there are things you will not like, or find awkward, but you will get used to them. No matter what anyone say's you will NOT notice a difference in speed etc when using 64bit over 32bit but if it's a straight choice between the two then you might as well go for the 64bit, you can then access more than the 3gb ram limit of 32bit and no doubt in the future things will take more advantage of the 64bit version. It installed fine (infact I upgraded from Vista Ultimate to 7 Ultimate but expect a long install this way) and only one of my peripherals needed drivers downloading (everything else was detected and installed by the installer). Overall, so far, it has been trouble free and is (slightly) quicker than Vista on certain things, (do not believe all the hype about much faster, quicker booting etc). It does shut down quicker though ;) Any questions feel free to ask mate.
  6. You did a great job Custard, the only thing that went a bit awry was everyone started going Lonewolf near the end but this was due to people leaving etc. Great mission and great movement from everyone. There are some small issues with cover arcs when stopped and spacing but all in all it was great. Another fine job of leading by Durka as well. The only thing I would say is that I find there is a little bit of micro managing going on but this is understandable until we all feel comfortable that everyone is doing their job without being told. This will only come with practice and time spent playing.
  7. Was certainly... interesting. For me, and a few others COMMS is a big issue. It needs sorting out. I personally think the Channel Commander option causes more problems than it's worth. Whispers are a lot more practical. Great that we're trying different stuff though, keep up the good work.
  8. Great job Durka, Those should help people get a grasp on squad movement and spacing. Keep em coming.
  9. Weekends are fine but they are also the most likely to be a pain due to family commitments, evenings out etc. I have always found in the past that it is far easier to schedule in a weekday evening than weekends.
  10. Of course we can do both bud, I just thought if quite a few of your regulars decide to give Tac Missions a go I didn't want Tac Dom to suffer as It's the regular good players that help the new players along. The offer of help is also much appreciated and I may well take you up on it if needed.
  11. Alpha Squad are always welcome (seeing as I know em all) as are TEK, 9MS etc
  12. At the moment Friday is a runaway choice. Now for me this is not a problem as I'm on most nights anyway and prefer to play Tactical Missions than domination. Is this a problem for the Public Dom server or can the Tactical Domination nights be moved easily enough? What I don't want is to draw too many of the regulars away and cause friction.
  13. Ok, I'm going to edit my original post because of a glaring omission.
  14. Ok people, due to interest being shown in the forums we have decided to stage a regular weekly Tactical Mission night. This poll and the planned mission night is for GMT timezone and is provisionally planned around 20:00 GMT We will post another thread if anyone comes forward (within SPARTA) to admin different timezones. This is not a Domination gametype and certain rules and restrictions will apply. I will attempt to explain how this will work below but nothing is set in stone so it will be a learning curve for us as well as you. What is the Tactical Mission Night? Basically the SPARTA Tactical Server will be used which will be in Veteran mode and will be running Community written MISSIONS. What are the rules for taking part? The rules for taking part are as follows (and again this is subject to change). 1: Every player Must be on our TS server with a working mic and be willing to communicate. 2: All players must be willing to follow the orders of whoever is commanding the mission even if this means just staying in one spot and observing for ages. 3: All players must be polite and tactical once the mission starts (Both on TS and in game chat). This is not to the detriment to fun, missions can be a barrel of laughs, but it is definitely a time to put the game heads on. 4: Run and gun, or lonewolfing will not be tolerated. Causing a mission fail or a teammates death because you got bored or because you wanted to kill something is NOT tactical and not wanted. 5: Punctuality. This is a pretty big one. All of the missions we will be playing will be 'No JIP' (Join In Progress). This means if you aren't around at the mission start time, then until the mission ends (win or lose) you will not be able to join in. It's a bit harsh if your a few minutes late but to be honest it's necessary. There have been nights when the actual start time has been delayed by upto an hour because people kept turning up a few minutes into a mission. This is not going to happen, it's unfair on the people that did make it on time. These are the basic rules for playing and if you don't agree with them or think you may have problems with them then that is entirely your choice and no one will think any the worse of you but maybe this night isn't for you. Below are a few question that you may think of (obviously you will think of many more and feel free to ask them). What kind of missions will we play? This is only limited by the kind of missions we can find to put on the server (within reason). Personally I prefer Infantry based missions using no friendly vehicles or aircraft (except maybe a Humvee or Truck for transport if the distance is great, though from experience in ArmA I, using vehicle in most missions draws unwanted attention and gets you dead ) so to begin with this is what we will start with. We will try and use missions that require thought and planning rather than brute force and ignorance. Will there be any pre mission planning? I will try and post up (in our forum) which mission we will be playing a few days in advance along with a link to the mission so people can download and try it and discuss any tactics and thoughts. How long will these games last? How long is a piece of string? I would allow at least 2 hours for this game night. Any less and you are probably going to be leaving before it's ended and put your team mates in jeopardy. Who will lead the mission? This will be decided in the pre mission planning stage but expect to have to lead a mission at some point. After all, war is fluid and the chain of command can change with a single bullet so everyone needs at least some knowledge of formulating plans on the fly and issuing orders. Can we make suggestions/recommendations of missions? Of course, if you have found, or even better written a good mission that you think we will enjoy, then by all means let one of us know and we will upload it to the server. OK, this is getting to be an essay now so I will wrap it up here. Please post any question you may have and don't forget to do the poll so we can work out what is the best night for everyone. I hope this will be the start of something good and that you enjoy playing with us on the Sparta Tactical Server. Dai-San out!
  15. These may help. http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=6713 http://www.legionofspartans.com/forums/ind...?showtopic=4038 Worth a try
  16. Direct from the Mission Briefing. "Settle down gentlemen, A mission's been passed down the food chain that calls for our particular brand of.... expertise shall we say. Intel reports that one Joseph Patruskin, a high ranking insurgent officer is covertly visiting his ageing grandmother on her deathbed. Yes, Yes, I know, how sweet of him. However, intel also reports that he is in possession of a map that has key information on all upcoming troop and equipment deployments. UAV observation reports a small mobile HQ has been established and we assume the map will be stored here but have no idea for how long. They have also observed enemy patrols and technicals scattered around the island so be wary. All you have to do is get into this HQ, Find the map and get to extraction. Easy. Good luck gentlemen, and be safe!" This is played out on UTES. Number of revives is selectable as is the time of day and weather conditions. There is no Respawn and no JIP. Also something to note, all missions I do are small unit Special Forces type missions. My missions are designed to make you think and plan on the fly, not to go in guns a blazing. They do not involve the use of vehicles or aircraft though you will encounter enemy vehicle threats. This is purely because I'm an old school GR1 player and don't really like vehicle based games, I am a boots on the ground guy.
  17. I did say 'at the moment', and you did say yourself that you had slacked off lately
  18. The problem with ArmA and ArmA 2 is that the game offers endless possibilities but the actual game code and implementation restrict this. An easy example is CQB, this is awful... truly dire and seriously hampers a lot of the missions I want to create. This is purely down to the game code and cannot be gotten around. There are quite a few problems with the game and hopefully a few will be addressed with the release of the A.C.E mode for ArmA 2. It's not perfect, but then what game is? Unfortunately I feel we have taken HUGE steps backwards in PC gaming since GR 1 and don't see any games on the horizon that remedy this. TBH at the moment I think I'm the only one still playing and creating Tactical Missions in SPARTA and having some company would be most welcome
  19. ROFL, you have never played any of my missions, throw any preconceptions from Domination or TVT out of the window, I can be down right evil
  20. This is our own Tactical Server and as such you would need to arrange with a SPARTA member to be present to admin the server etc. This shouldn't be a problem as there is normally someone around who is itching to play some Tactical ArmA. I am around every night and would gladly run through missions with you (including my own). As for your question about Medic, Revive etc, this is totally down to the mission programming. I spent ages getting Heal and Revive to work in my missions, it involves using scripts etc.
  21. I don't play DOM a lot, but I find I'm falling into the medic role a lot as it seems to be a bit under used.
