    Digital Compass

Cheers bud, haven't used it myself, but hopefully someone may find it useful and face the right way when I shout "Enemy BMP at 230 degrees"

    Digital Compass

It would if Zeno or another admin decide it's an acceptable mod and include the server file.

    Digital Compass

Now personally I prefer the good old compass (with the AT_GUI mod for my old eyes ) but thought others may find this useful as I know some people have a hard time when you shout a bearing at them of an objective, or vehicle, or enemy etc. Digital Compass
  4. Everything is running fine on the Tac server and on the UK Dom server for me, played for a while tonight and it ran great. I had a terrible job trying to join the US Dom server tonight, 5 times and every time it CTD just before spawning me and when I was back to desktop I had a constant 4meg download occurring. Give it 2 mins and the dload stopped, retry ArmA, same deal. Zeno reset the server because others couldn't connect either and it was fine after that.
  5. I'm not sure what is happening with the DOM servers but it seems to me that ArmA II is becoming more unstable. There always seems to be people hanging, crashing, I now get more frequent CTD's. I don't get this problem while editing, or playing on the TAC server so I'm wondering what is being done to the DOM one.
  6. Welcome mate, I'm sure you will find Like minded people here, (though what those minds are like is another matter).
  7. Great job Durka and everyone that took part.
  8. Floyd & Cylawyer have discovered that you don't need it. You can join with direct IP from the LAN in ODPDR.
  9. Ok, I'm gonna probably make myself unpopular here (but what's new huh ). I Still feel there is too much micro management going on here. I'm not talking about training or drills, we all need that whether it's learning a new skill or practising old ones. What I'm talking about is discounting the eyes on the ground and the players ability to judge the correct path and approach to complete an objective or reach a goal. I feel that often I am being directed to go or move in a certain direction by someone who has no eyes on my cover routes or terrain details and is sending me into certain doom. I understand that it is difficult in the heat of war to command or make snap decisions when all hell is breaking loose, but if anything, giving players MORE latitude on their routes and movement, lessens the commanders work load. We have a LOT of experienced players here and I for one feel confident that if I issue an order to some players or groups to move TOO a certain location, THEY will move there using the best route and cover available, without me saying "OK, sneak to the next bush and wait 10 seconds, then move on". If we do not have the confidence to do this then surely it is US not providing the correct training to players, or not putting the right squads together. Put the less experienced people with teh more experienced ones and let the SQUAD leader sort the groundwork out. As a Mission commander I want an easy life. I want to say stuff like "Alpha, move to xxx and blow xxx up. Bravo move to xxx and cover Alpha." Then get back to my map to work out the next bit knowing Alpha and Bravo are doing their job. What I don't want, and feel we have at the moment is more like, "Alpha, move to xxx, using this path (dots on the map) in this formation, with this spacing, in this order, at this speed, yadda yadda yadda". It is not conducive to an easy life for the Commander and annoying for Alpha because they can see a perfectly good route or path to get to X because they are right there on the ground. But it ain't along the dots. You know what I feel is the main problem after typing this, we are trying to run a live game AND training at the same time, and tbh that is going to be a SLOW process with a LOT of frustration for ALL parties. Anyway, I'm not pointing fingers at anyone or anything in particular, just noting things I see and hear and things that might explain certain... problems we are facing. Dai out !
  10. DO NOT use ArmA2 as a benchmark program or think that you should be getting better frames than you are mate. I know people with monster systems that get about the same frames as you. I also know people with systems that are lower than yours who get higher FPS. ArmA 2 optimisation and framerates are a totally unknown quantity.
  11. Surely there is a simple solution to this. The standard Dom server is purely there to get people in and playing ArmA II. Those of you who are more experienced or wanting more tactical play can move on to the Passworded Dom server where Tactical play is more heavily encouraged and enforced. This would leave the normal server to ease players into our more tactical way of playing and not annoy those already above the run and gun style.
  12. At those framerates Vsync isn't an issue. Where you would notice a cap is like mine, at the aircraft carrier front screen mine is a solid 60fps and won't go higher. Mid 20's is the norm in ArmA 2 mate, it is amazing how much the game engine effects framerates. The more AI and game logic in use (even if not visible, ie the other side of the map, out of draw distance), the lower the framerate. A good test of this is using UTES in the editor. Place a single player (yourself) on the UTES map in the editor with no waypoints, enemies, game logic etc and check the framerates. Then place some AI, game logic (SOM etc) and waypoint and triggers on the map (all on the other side of the island) out of draw distance, and recheck your framerates.
  13. Couple of things, open the file in your preferred paint prog then re save it out to your ArmA 2 folder as a jpg called Face (note the capital F). Then do the same saving it out to your ArmA 2 Other profiles folder putting it in the root of this folder and in the route of your game name folder if present. Then try to select it in game. (Note, you are looking for the custom face option, not a face called Face).

    Mod Requests

They are very old threads and there is still the problems with vegitation that have always existed in Arma. It does not render grass past a certain distance, so YOU may think your laying in a grassy area hidden, but someone across the valley from you shows you laying in the middle of a nice open field. The AI will shoot you through the tiniest gap in trees that any human wouldn't see. ie, imagine a dense stand of trees, to us, looking out we find it hard to spot enemies through the small slivers between vertical tree trunks. The AI doesn't have the same problem, if it can see you, no matter how slim the gap, and a bullet will fit through said gap, it WILL shoot you. Now I'm not saying ArmA is any worse than other games, infact in a lot of ways it's better, but it still has a lot of the AI issues that plague most games. Vegitation and cover will always be an issue. Anyway, back on topic. For all us OLD Geezers, I would request this MOD. AT GUI Pack I'm sick of not being able to read the damn compass headings in Domination ;)
  15. Unfortunately that solution would only work within a Squad or Clan that work together regularly and already have good comms etiquette. If the Squad leader remains in the same channel as his squad then you will always get cross talk when on a public server with less than perfect comms etiquette. The only way of enabling the Command element to actually plan and command is to remove the squad chatter totally and have them in a separate channel.
  16. This is a format that I have used in the past with other Squads in other games. If anyone needs help setting up TS Whispers or Keybinds then don't hesitate to post here or grab me on TS.
  17. Personally, I had to leave last night as I found it was pure chaos on comms and people were moving about when they had CLEAR instructions of what to do and where to be. The time I was on I felt truly sorry for the Mission Leaders, they stepped up to the plate and did what most others on the server always shy away from, put their money where their mouth is and tried leading the mission. They were repaid for their hard efforts with people either dicking about on comms or when they where told to can it, they proceeded to do the same on in game text. In my books that is not only immature but GROSSLY disrespectful. If anything I felt that last nights gaming, rather than moving forward, as should be the case as, was a regression even from the early days. Obviously I can only comment on the games I was about for and not what went on before and after. Custard, no need to apologise my friend, if anything you were rather restrained.
  18. Good luck, after doing the same recently (4890) I will be switching back pretty soon. I must admit I am underwhelmed with the performance and just don't like the ATI CC. I STILL can't get VSync switched off in ArmA
