  1. Here in the US they have "authentic" brazilain steak houses such as: http://www.fogodechao.com/ where I've eaten in Atlanta, and http://www.tucanos.com/ in Provo. Warning, don't load up on the veggies they offer up front, because the meat is outstanding and keeps on coming, as much as you want. Mmmmmmm.
  2. Mmmmmm. I've never added the egg, but will give it a go sometime.
  3. And not only was the govt closed today, it will also be closed Tuesday, because of a Blizzard coming Wednesday. So we'll probably get the whole week off. And Monday next is a holiday.
  4. And of course two hours after I reached the road, they announced that the government is closed Monday, so it's all for nothing.
  5. Driveway half way done. More shovelling soon. The snow thrower is at the Rancho de Elvis in Utah, where it snows like this all the time, along with the snowmobiles, snowshoes, skiis for the stroller, etc. I thought this WAS florida.
  6. Two feet in the driveway. Began shovelling tonight and made it about 30 feet toward the street. More in the morning. No big worries as the plow hasn't come by yet.
  7. The Springfield is made in Croatia from a Croatian design, re-tagged as a Springfield. It's still a very good gun. Of course the Glock is a Glock, with years of proven reliability and a larger support network. If it's a toss up for you, and they both feel the same in your hand, and you can access the mag release on them the same, etc. go with the Glock. If one feels better and fits your hand better, go with that. Free advice from the deputy chief of a police department the size of Atlanta's.
  8. This could really help against those homeless people who come up to try and wash my windshield.
  9. The time/money trade off is real for me at this point in life. It's like not changing my own oil. It just doesn't feel right.
  10. That comes out to about $1450, less the optical drive that I can hold off on for a bit re-using the old ones, comparable to the alienware one with brand components. Plus add Windows 7 home premium to make it near 1650. It does have the SSD, and I can pull my existing drives for plenty of additional storage. Comments? Criticisms? Suggestions? Now vs. alienware with the warranty and pre-assembled. I think the SSD will rock tho, and the brand components should help, but by how much? PS Medic, thanks for your taking the extra time.
  11. I have the Antec 900 and wouldn't mind either the 1200 Hallis case, or a CM product. Assuming I build it myself. For the specs, I agree on bumping up to the 260. With that in mind, costco, bless them, has this alienware product for $1500 that has the i7-920, the 260, 6 gigs of DDR3. The disadvantage is that I don't know what Dell is putting in as far as components. I know the PSU will be enough to power it and maybe another SATA drive and a BluRay I could add, but little margin of error. Actually, I might be able to swap in my current PSU if I upgrade enough. I know the memory will be fine, but probably won't be Corsair or other high end. I know its liquid cooled, but I'm going to be using it eventually in a cabin that can drop below freezing when we're not there (anyone know what liquid they use? A little antifreeze in it?) I will miss my lovely copper CPU cooler. I guess I sit down and price out the individual components and see how it compares. Add that to the one-year at home warranty for the off the shelf product. I hate to think it's that I'm becoming lazy.
  12. OK, option one is this, with costco's warranty, and not having to take the time/gain the learning experience of putting together another machine: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?...p=C&topnav= Other than that: i7. 860? or should I jump up a bit for quite a bit more. Mobo: MSI Eclipse SLI Graphics: Geforce GTX 275 Drive: HDD or SSD? If SSD Patriot Torx 64GB or stick with the HDD (still have the raptors) Case recommendations?
  13. My video card died, and I've got other issues, so it's probably time to build something new. I'm not looking for cutting edge, but at the sweet spot in pricing or slightly above. Case: Want room Vid card: The BFG died, and the RMA came back damaged, so I'm not thrilled with them at this point.
  14. Yet another Thankgiving at Sparta. Add the year or two some of us have been gaming together previously, this is getting to be a tradition.
  15. From my computer in the garage somewhere near Delaware over a wireless. My regular PC is down due to video card issues (the same one everyone else is having to RMA. Hope to be back on a wired connection next week.
  16. ccleaner to clean you up. any of the free antimalware products. both free.
  17. Not relevant. I'm in fear every time I drive on the highway, or see my in-laws. It doesn't give me the right to kill people. You need objective facts, not subjective emotions, in order to legally justify your actions. People legally kill people all the time without being in fear. And a Remington 870 is a fine way of doing that.
  18. Saiga 12 is Russian and rather reliable too. Plus the magazine is rather cool.
  19. Thanks. Iron sights also cover up a lack of training as well, when you get down to it. As I pointed out, it's the going hog wild gun.
  20. 00 buck in a magnum shell will penetrate about the same as a .38 round, so it's going through drywall several time over. For the shotty, the Moss 500 or Remington 870 will both serve you well. There are plenty of variations that will allow you to spend and customize them to you've completely run out of money, but the cheapest will kill an intruder just as dead as the most expensive. Accessories: Blackhawk/Knoxx stock. Telescopic, pistol grip and abosorbs recoil, and you can add a holder for extra rounds. surefire forend for reliable ergonomic light. Magazine extension. Of course I went hog wild and added a specops sidesaddle that includes an optics mount and an aimpoint micro-t-1 red dot sight, so I've got 6+1 rounds, plus 10 outside. If you've ever seen the documentary "Terminator 2", you know that the only thing that will slow down the T-1000 terminator is a slug, and you need plenty of them. Some people believe that movie to be "science fiction," but you can't be too careful. As far as pistols go, buy one you are comfortable with and can afford that is used by military or LE. 40 or 45. If you don't plan on practicing, get a Glock as it is almost as idiot proof as a revolver. Other recommendations here will also serve you well but may require a tiny bit more skill.
