  1. Well it could be an almost exciting moment! We may be on the cusp of seeing the release of the next iteration of the Arena Commander code, which will allow multi-player single ship manning. (Try saying that when you've had a few) Now why would you necessarily want to get closer to any to your fellow Spartans remains an unanswered question, but it does open up an avenue for those who were unable to justify the kickstarter investment to experience the universe according to Mr Roberts. I know that there are a couple of persons who have invested in multi-manned ships and I am sure that they would rather have real players manning those guns - even though we all deep down know we will suck compared to the AI! So keep those eyes peeled for the announcements and expect draft papers to drop through the door imminently
  2. Thanks for the update Mr P. I have placed a complete box reboot in for 04:00 BST, if you feel this needs to move then let me know. I will be grateful for views on a second reboot, in the day, to ensure that we get consistent behaviour for the evening busy period. The reboot seems to take a few minutes at most, the major delay seems to be the game registering with steam after it comes back. The save seems to be working much better now and we are not getting the issue with the game freezes so, other than it being a little annoying, we should be able to schedule something to keep up the performance. It doesn't seem to matter how much CPU or Processor memory is available to the server code, it just gets claggy. There are always spare resources available on the box, it doesn't seem CPU intensive in anycase. I think they just need to work on the server code itself. The 'spare' materials are from the missing refineries and large storage boxed which are no longer present. They seemed to have a moment and there were these big holes. We will probably need Adder to come in and try and remember how it looked. The lights aren't perfect, I am still getting my head around the maths bit, but we certainly have a starting point to make some nice landing arrangements.
  3. Well the load times seem pretty much the same, however we have lost the game stutter/pause when people join the server, I am interested in restarting saving, however the game code has other ideas, and currently it is winning. This must be what it is like to have teenagers. It ignores any setting of save, so I reckon it has become broken. .......again. On the plus side..................... lights flash
  4. I have finally got the permanent home for the server sorted. We have therefore migrated across. We are on a 100Mbit/s symmetrical access, and we have a slightly more powerful home. Hopefully you should see some improvement in performance. We are on a 6 core Xeon E5 and there will be headroom for other things concurrently. I can't fix Carter blowing everything up in sight, however.
  5. Well my prayers have been answered. Only the most important change in the whole flipping world. "Flashing options have been added for lights; you can create navigation lights and runways - multiple lights can be synced." You thought I could create a disco before, you ain't see nothing yet. This game may contain flashing images - you have been promised! Hyperbole mode off.
  6. So you have had to use a local administered address field on the NIC? If so that is interesting, the burnt in address as we old timers call it has gone, which I thought was impossible. Unless that addressing is being handled by the bios I suppose. Where did you edit the information, within Windows itself or at a bios level?
  7. Now, a matter has arisen that requires the full attention of the committee. The 'nay-sayer', the purveyor of ridicule and comic observation, the man (and I use that term loosely you understand) that is hereafter known as 'The Krambo' has had a mask slip. He, 'The Krambo' was involved in an exchange, an exchange of words that was logged and verified mark you, with one of our illustrious space engineers, Lt Cdr Panic, He 'The Krambo' expressed an earnest wish to be making his way in the dark reaches of the universe, to feel the shudder of rotor grinding against steel, and experience the fear of possible death from the imminent explosion. He 'The Krambo' wants to feel the exhilaration of hearing the words crackling over the radio, 'This is Carter, I am just going mining, I may be some time' knowing that will be the last time he sees that ship. And as it glides majestically past him, glinting in the sunlight he will feel the passion, the awe, that Carter can so reliably destroy anything he pilots. So, my friends, my fellow space travelers, I ask you this. Should we allow junior space cadet 'The Krambo' engineer third class, merit badge in Lego and stickle-bricks to join our mining outpost?
  8. My thanks to Adder, the server is now starting back up with his save and you can again 'fill your boots' Let's get that door built m'laddo.
  9. Looks good, although I think I would leave the guns at home for all the good they appear to do. I reckon I would have more luck boring them to death
  10. I would suggest getting four, the car will probably handle better. Try these..... Wheel I will be looking to put them on all my cars .........now where are the purple and lime-green paint tins
  11. Yup, with the speed thingy, but bearing in mind the test uses 1000MB it is still a real world indication.
  12. Panic, but......but......where is the plastidip action!? Looking like a great build there and I will be dead jealous no doubt when you post the awesome overclock success. I have had to ramp mine down so much to get stability recently that I may go back to a pentium II at this rate. Good luck with the software side today and looking forward to seeing you online later.
  13. Panic and myself have been discussing the merits of different disk configurations, speed versus capacity, eating versus buying computer equipment, you know the sort of thing (mmmm Baked Bean toasties.......) Anyone who is in a relationship may dimly remember being able to make these sorts of decisions, prior to the higher authority taking away all autonomous thought. So I stuck a few different styles into my main machine to see what results I would get, and let crystaldiskmark come and adjudicate. C: older model Samsung 840 - 120GB SSD D: Two Western Digital RE 1TB (7200) drives in a software stripe E: Samsung 1.5TB (7200) F: Current Samsung EVO 840 SSD Even the space of a year has seen a significant improvement between the two SSD's. However for capacity it is not always affordable to place everything on an SSD and you may have to resort to mechanical, and the stripe does also bring major improvement - but buyer beware. The stripe is an unprotected configuration and you should always take appropriate precautions, a regular backup regime is critical in this scenario. Even though the Western Digital drives have a 5 year warranty and a stupid MTBF you should not rely on luck. I have looked at the cost of hardware raid cards, but at the cheaper end of the market you are still only buying a software solution, and to get true hardware raid you are looking to spend somewhere around £200 plus so I ruled that one out for me as a viable approach. Additionally using the software raid(fake raid) on your board locks the drives to a bespoke drive layout so using operating system allows you to move the drives in the future without having to reformat, or losing access to your data. I did some background reading on fake raid some while ago and there was not much difference between the onboard and the OS variants. Most of the checksum/calculation still gets passed to the processor at this level by both systems. I will be interested to see what sorts of speeds others are getting from their mechanical drives. For those still awake, we salute you!
  14. Ok thanks to everyone who has expressed an interest, I appreciate that dates and travel will make it more difficult for some than others. I will start to look at venues and dates with the Staines and Reading massive and see whether we can come up with something that works. Watch this space ok, space watching is boring, back to gaming with you.
  15. Aww well done Rizzla. I am sure the wedding present from P is in that old faithful Sheffield post........
  16. As much to annoy and push Custard into being sociable as for any other reason, could we see whether there is any interest in some airsoft out towards the west of London? knows I am fat, unfit and totally unsuited to this running around lark, but we could possibly, at a push, enjoy ourselves. There are a couple of possible venues around there, Reading, Maidenhead, (custard's back garden) Sam, it will be an excellent chance to meet Custard, seeing as you have no other opportunity. You living so far apart and all that.
  17. :allgood:Happy Birthday bloke, plenty of cake I trust.
  18. :Party_hat:Excellent news, how is the sleep thing, a distant memory?
  19. Happy Birthday Mr Panic - live a little, get some plasti-dip action my boy!
  20. Hello matey! Good to hear you are back in one piece. Racing tomorrow perchance?
