  2. "New Weapons and Gun Master Mode Coming in Spring Update

DICE continues to constantly improve Battlefield 4 to make the best gaming experience possible. In the Spring Patch (releasing late May for all platforms), we’ve listened to your feedback and gave you what you wanted – more guns!
    Five new weapons

Some of the weapons are old fan favorites, others are picked based on their unique gameplay aspects. These are the five new weapons:

    New fan favorite Assault Rifle
Picked based on its unique burst gameplay and massive fan desirability

    New Carbine
A unique bullpup carbine with built-in vertical grip

    New PDW
A unique PDW with built-in silencer

    New Sidearm
Unique long range “sniper” sidearm using magnum rounds

    New LMG
Magazine fed LMG, which with the new weapons balance, plays in between a belt-fed LMG and an AR – your “run and gun” LMG

    Full weapons balance pass

In the Spring Patch, we have also revamped the damage, falloff and suppression model. With this pass, we’ve touched every single weapon in the game – and how they play.

Our goal has been to create distinct roles for the weapon classes, and award skill of the player through increased recoil and by bringing back the 2-bullet headshot!

If you are interested in more details on what has been changed in relation to weapons, please visit our Community Test Environment subreddit (Open Weapon Balance wikipage).

    Return of Gun Master

Next up, we are bringing back Gun Master game mode – which gained its popularity in Battlefield 3: Close Quarters.

Gun Master is played like a Team Deathmatch game. The twist is that you don’t get to choose the weapons used. You swap weapons every time you get two consecutive kills on an opponent and whoever is the first player to get a kill with the final weapon wins!

The mode will contain the following five presets with at most 18 different weapons in each:

    Standard
This setup contains rifles, machine guns, shotguns and pistols and ends with the M9 bayonet

    Classic
Classic rifles, machine guns, shotguns and pistols ending with a M9 bayonet

    Pistol
In this preset you can only use different kind of pistols, ending with the survival knife

    DLC
This mode will let you play with DLC weapons – including the Phantom bow

    Troll
Seeing how Gun Master is a “party mode”, we had to make a silly weapon list too! This one starts out with ballistic shields (as weapons) and it’s downhill from there

    PC Stability & Netcode Updates

Lastly, we set out to significantly improve client stability on all platforms and have applied fixes for the most frequently occurring crashes on each.

For PC crashes, we used the Battlefield 4 Community Test Environment to confirm our fixes. We focused on crashes and issues with the game client and server – not crashes related to outdated graphics drivers.

We urge all players to update their graphics driver to the latest stable versions, keeping overclocking to a minimum for the best results with Spring Patch.

    Patch Notes

For details on what exactly has been improved in the Spring Patch, we’ll publish the full patch notes closer to release."

  3. From PC Gamer

"Last year saw the release of a Gauntlet reboot — a classic series brought back by a developer (Arrowhead Game Studios) known for its ability to make great four-player co-op action games. But for some reason, it didn't quite work out as well as people might have hoped.

But all is not lost — months after the game's initial release, a big, free content update is coming to Gauntlet with the aim of fixing what was originally a so-so experience.

Emil Englund, game director at Arrowhead, wrote these words in a post on the dev's blog:

"In truth, we were never fully satisfied with how Gauntlet turned out. So, rather than just fixing little things here and there, we have been working on the core of the game to turn it into what we originally envisioned.

"This will mean a free major content update for the game, including improvements to the Campaign and the Colosseum as well as a brand new game mode."

As well as the detail-lacking new content announcement, Englund also points out that community matters for Gauntlet will now be handled directly by the Arrowhead team.

It's good to see a studio not just throwing something out there and forgetting about it — and on top of that, wrestling control of communication with the players away from the evil corporate suits (n.b. there's no proof anyone involved was actually evil).

Gauntlet in its current form, as released in 2014, can still be picked up on Steam right now."

  4. Hmm, the fact that you initially get the speed, and then it drops doesn't point me towards something taking the bandwidth. For that behaviour to make sense the 'stealer' would have to always be idle at the start of the test, and then decide to rapidly jump in. If your testing consistently shows 160 falling like a stone to 100, then it isn't something stealing the bandwidth - if it were I would expect to see you struggling to peak out over the 100 from the outset.

On the basis that you can get 160 solid on a safe boot then that stinks more of software/firewall or something similar dogging the ability to get stuff up the IP stack at a guess. You have proven the hardware has nothing holding it back. I am a brave soul and as I have a modem firewall - I disable windows firewall, and I don't run any virus software (because it can slow things down inspecting the packets as they tend to have firewalls built in now) . Are you in a position on a standard boot to even temporarily achieve that similar status of disablement and retest?

If you are running windows 8 then a good place to look is the network section of the Resource Monitor. It will indicate the network activity, show you the TCP sessions, and general background chatter going on.

  5. Slain has been keeping a good eye on the political announcements within ED and pointed out that the system we were in was near to a civil war. Not really having paid much attention I was wondering how much of this was random, how much was game influenced pre-determined, and how much influence players could make.

It seems that politically you can make quite an impact.....this thread is worth a read, maybe when you are on the toilet or something, it is a tad long.

  6. Ok, I am a little slow in the brain department, so if this was blinding obvious to the rest of you I bow to your superior intellect.

Essentially buying trade data is filling in the trade lines on the Galaxy Map. You can avoid buying the trade data by stopping in a station and automatically getting the in/out routes for that system. It is therefore worth stopping at a station in every system if you can to create the pretty picture.

What I am not sure about is whether stopping in one station in a system gives you a view of all trade in the other stations in the same system - anyone?
