  1. If I can get my ADSL sorted (they are investigating today) then I am interested in this. Packetloss recently has been abysmal and made work and play slightly frustrating.

I will let you know either way it I can make it tomorrow.

  2. Can I have a show of hands for Friday to try and get ourselves together for some DCS missioning? (appreciating that this a little UK focused initially)

Zeno has been making a number of changes to the missions and we are at a place where we need 4+ planes to achieve the takeover of the map.

    Show of hands please

  3. That track was awesome. It really has some sweeping bends which require some tricky lines and speed awareness. Obviously I have none of those skills so I just cut every corner. Job Done innit!

Both PCars1 and PCars2 have a dedicated server under steam. Steamcmd allows you to specify the particular game you want to download, directory to drop it into, and it does it all automatically. Then you just need to read the howto to get the thing launched. PCARs both seem to run almost the same code. If I can do it, anyone can. I have setup the dummies version where the first person to join becomes the admin and specifies the racing criteria. There is an advanced mode which is configured by LUA scripting, but as I can't script my way out of a paper-bag I have left that well alone. When something keeps telling me a comma or squirly bracket is missing I lose patience very quickly. The lua code allows you to setup a web page to control the server.

The biggest challenge in running a dedicated server is actually having an internet connection large enough to handle the expected traffic. Until very recently trying to do it at home was very unreliable as domestic internet connections vary too much in performance at peak times and suffer jitter. The solid way is to have the server in a datacentre somewhere with access to a symmetrical internet link. The cheapest way to achieve this is to rent a slot server from a gaming platform provider. The expensive way is to rent a dedicated VM instance  and run all your own games.

The cheat way to do it is be responsible for your companies IP Transit service, and have a a server under your desk which happens to be connected to the 40Gbit/s of IP uplink backbone in the DC, for testing purposes you understand. One must know what sort of experience the customers are having after all.

  5. I have started configuring the server side for DCS Simple Radio on Open Beta 2 server.

You can download the software here

You do not expressly need it to play on that server, but it will allow you to step up to the next level of immersion, basically for those that find operating sixty-four buttons simultaneously is not quite taxing enough. It's early days and I haven't tuned it to be distance related, so you should be able to use the channels across the whole map. There is an AWAC's function which I have yet to work out, and also a spectator option to listen in.  It is current and supported and has been around for quite a while. If it doesn't crash the server I will look to install it onto the others as well.

If you install the software, (wait for it to register with the Russian Bot factory, and place the keylogger on your machine, and start to ransomware your HD), it should detect and attach to the voice server as you join from within the DCS game. I haven't yet heard anyone.

Right, anyone know how to get hold of bitcoin, my screen is flashing red..........

  6. I am investigating the server side. I am a little worried at the specifications. If it single threaded I may need to put it on a separate machine, but we shall see.

    Boring isn't it.

  7. Barn doors still have nothing to worry about with me. I used nearly 15 rounds on some targets yesterday to no effect. These were stationary and I still was unable to land a hit. I did get two later kills but they were very close, I was prone and that took 7 shots.

In doing some reading, through the tears of failure, I have found the following snippets, which are pasted from different posts around the interweb.

Stamina is a huge factor in your ability to aim. If you have less than 50% stamina don’t expect to do anything beyond suppressing a target. Just like it would be hard to sprint 300 yards then drop dead accurate shots, this is translated into the game via stamina and weapon swing.

The K98 is fine at 100m. Sub-100m it shoots pretty high in my experience. At 10m I have to aim below prone targets to hit them.

It's the same issue in SQUAD, both titles use a small grid based system for the ads mechanics. If a distant target is on one of the grid lines, you won't be able to hit em unless you alter your position.

I noticed this when playing on lower dpi. Now I have found how to make it smooth by playing on 2000 dpi and on 0.09 sensitivity. This appears to relate to the common complaint of not being able to aim with precision, if anyone can explain how I set this one up I will be most grateful!

Lastly, and this may be me being paranoid, but I have some fights I have had are balanced, in that may shots have ensued and I have died according to my ability, which is 0% but after the opponent has had to use several shots to get me, whilst I have missed him continually. The area that bugs me is when I am running rapidly and I am one shot hit, and the audible indicator is that it is not a close shot. These annoy the hell out of me and make me sway towards assuming aimbot use. As indicated at the start of this post a moving target is very difficult to hit with iron sights and they are "super-mega ukulele" skill level.

Overall I am not put off. I think we are moving toward closed server evenings PVP to hone/enhance our skills in a controlled environment.

We still need to get Squad leaders and Map leader skilled honed. The information overload is as bad as ARMA but getting a full platoon together will undoubtedly be awesome.

Not sure which version you need Luggs, so here's all of them.

    steamID: STEAM_1:1:6546178
    steamID3: [U:1:13092357]
    steamID64: 76561197973358085

Also, that one clever bastard seems to be playing every time I get on   :wallbash:

I have added your Steamid 64, which is the one that it gave the examples for, and appears to work reliably.

I have also signed you up for life with Readers Digest gold tier. 😁

  9.

On our own server we have access to a number of features which you can't easily enjoy on the public ones which are triggered by your steam ID number, so if you can post that in  here I can add you to the list. Features include

    • Members are exempt from team balance restrictions
    • Members are exempt from team swap time limits
    • Members can make the server private/public as required

For new players the server affords a safe environment to try out different aspects of the game,  without seven heaps of shit raining down, and some clever bastard constantly shooting you.

  10. about the window you have half blocks and on top you had the half slope. guess it wasn't enough of an edge to be air tight. replaced the slope with the 2x1 slope small part. all breathable in there now.

I blame these dodgy cowboy midlands builders. What we clearly needed was a dodgy southern geezer to sort it out. oioi!
