  1. I booted into safe mode and ran the speedtest, it started at 150Mb and went UP quickly to a solid 160Mb! That's even faster than I am supposed to get. Boot normally and it starts at 143, then within seconds is below 100Mb,. I have to figure this out...
  2. Windows defender and Firewall both turned off, same strange drop in speed.
  3. Good question.... Nvidia 3D drivers, noting else I can think of.
  4. Thanks Lugs. Windows 7. So you are suggesting to try disabling windows firewall and AV and windows defender and see if that makes a diff? I don't mind trying that because I'm at the point where as the culprit is not obvious I might just bite the bullet and do a frsj install of windows on a spare SDD I have here. I would like to pin this down though, so I'll keep digging for a few days...
  5. I tried netstat, I ran it in safe mode, then compared it to one with a normal boot, there are some difference which I will investigate further - thanks. Never heard of soluto I will look into that, thanks. (edit, is that the right link.... looks like webhosting or something lol) Pringle, I guess you don't want to hear about my colleague at agr-s.com, Deosl, he has 500Mb download AND UPLOAD!!! btw, I'm not getting butthurt over what is essentially still a great speed - fact is my gaming is being affected too so something needs fixed
  6. So my internet speed has been hijacked someone - on speedtest you can see the speed starts at 143Mb but quickly starts dropping, and keeps dropping until it is under 100Mbit - which is 60 Mbit less than it is capable of. https://youtu.be/SsKbjeKRJU8 If I boot into safe mode with networking, I get the full 160Mb download speed, solid. So at the moment I am going through all running processes to see if I can figure out which one is causing this strange bottleneck.
  7. Awe for petes sake, I never knew about this game and went and bought blinking Dirt Rally this week, wish I had not now. Still not sure whether to get Project Cars or Assetto Corsa, Hows P.Cars looking, I see a bunch of you have jumped in already.
  8. Yep, I saw it in your steam list today Dai. When I first played it I was blown away by the visuals, very cool, probably the best outdoors I've seen the foliage, trees, and rocks are the best I've seen in any game. I thought it couldn't get any better, then I ordered the Nvidia glasses and it was like I never wanted to go back to 2D ethan again! It is THAT good in 3d. If I never play another game with these £100 glasses, I'll still think they were a worthwhile investment, just for this one game. Tonight I had to retrace my steps because I waltzed right past the first murder scene without solving it, a walkthough put me right. The revelation of the first murder had me open mouthed, seriously. Great experience. Next week - I'll be playing it in virtual reality with my smartphone and google glasses lol.
  9. That auto save feature is actually not quite as I (and everyone else I see complaining about it) thinks, because it actually saves quite frequently, IF you complete the puzzles as you go. The problem is there is no gameplay barrier to prevent you running off miles into the game leaving a trail of unsolved puzzles (and save points) behind! Anyway - 3D is AWESOME, but this looks even better!!!!
  10. Was reading a little about this on steam today, lots of people saying the game looks great and runs great, not demanding at all. Weedrew got it on DVD too, 60Gb across 7 DVDs lol. Why is it so big though?
  11. It's fantastic but crippled by a pathetic auto save feature. It's so beautiful I will persevere though!
  12. Been playing with Nvidia 3D Glasses, wow! Grid Autosport is cool, especially in car view, but the already beautiful The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is simply amazing in 3D, one of my best gaming experiences ever; such depth and enhanced awareness is really something special. Not tried much else so far, but I'll be playing Ethan non stop anyway lol.
  13. The vanishing of etham carter is stunning, beautiful game.
  14. Got my new monitor today - very pleased with it, 1080, Gsync, Nvidia 3d, 144Hz 24" - AOC G2460PG http://us.aoc.com/monitor_displays/g2460pg Screen is very clear, text is better than on the 27" screen I returned, perhaps because the dot pitch on this one is better. Did some watchdogs and grid autosport at 144Hz with Gsync on, looked great. To be honest I can't really see the diff between 60/144Hz but Grid looks fantastic, and watchdogs did not slow down or tear anywhere, it was awesome. Waiting for the Elite update to download so I can try that next. :0) Happy.
  15. Happy Birthday! Have a coffee!
  16. Elite gamers are all over this, bemoaning the over simplistic mining in ED.
  17. I use the free version to clean colleagues PCs for them, works great.
  18. Never noticed OC forums before, what a great resource!
  19. BTW, big to-do brewing of Nvidia's G-Sync, some guy reckons it's nothing but marketing and uses existing tech..... http://gamenab.net/2015/01/26/truth-about-the-g-sync-marketing-module-nvidia-using-vesa-adaptive-sync-technology-freesync/#more-849 discussion here http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1860 Now I've got my money back, I might hold out for this http://www.pcgamer.com/acer-unveil-super-quick-144hz-g-sync-ips-monitor/
