The public server needs paradrop and mhq, especially if we have no fly rules. but on day when we lock the server we shouldnt use either, imho.
Yes, I'd agree. In fact that was what I was trying to get over in my post but didn't!
Use the mod as is on open server and the tweaked version on the locked server. Either way I think it's a great addition to the gameplay.

I think you almost need two versions: One as is, that would satisfy the casual server visitors and one without the parajumps / MRV respawns etc for the regulars who, know how the server plays and enjoy playing this way.
Just my 2 cents.

Superb work, can't wait to try out some missions with this.

that's a good price Watchman, my understanding is the disc ships with both 32 and 64 on it - giving you the choice
Yes, MS had a special launch deal that ran from July 15th (I think) till August 15th, or whenever stocks ran out. You could buy from 5 or 6 retailers in the UK. Amazon was my obvious choice but right from the start you couldn't place an order for the home premium version, they were only allowing orders for the Ultimate edition, at around £80. So I went to Play at got it for £49.99.
No surprise that the "stock" ran out well ahead of the planned offer close date but having said that Amazon are now selling the home premium version for £64, which is still good.
And yes, it does ship with 32-bit & 64-bit and Amazon are also saying that they will ship with ie8, so no idea how they got around that issue but who cares!
-
I read that all 7 versions are full not upgrade cos they are being shipped without IE (this is just in Europe) this includes the ones marked as upgrade helpfully.
After my last post I checked my order on Play.com (got the pre-order £49.99 for home premium ) and it mentions in the blurb that it comes with 32-bit, 64-bit AND ie8. That last bit confused the hell out of me as they are supposed to ship without following the legal challenge they got hit with. Still will know for certain in around a months time....

Excellent fun, hope we can do this every Sunday.
Would be good to see if we can get the mission working, that had us starting in the Osprey, that sounded like a good one.
-
I thought that Windows 7 was going to be 64 bit only and that there would only be a "business user" version in 32bit???
Pre-ordered mine and looking forward to the install and finally getting to see all 8 gig of ram

It didn't help you had a retard leading you after Durka left. Next time Dai-San or luggage get the leadership role it's not me
You did an okay job, don't put yourself down. Enjoyed last night, some good games and excellent movement all round.

Enjoyed things last night, real fun but having some probs since the 1.4 patch. My last respawn took down my pc completely! Even a reboot wouldn't get me back into the game, anyone else experiencing post 1.4 issues?
Other than that, loved the idea of airborne assaults, looking forward to doing that again.

All very good points and the whole not standing for or singing the National Anthem really pisses me off as well.
You should try living over here, it's bordering on a crime to sing the national anthem. I'm getting sick and tired of the bloody PC brigade and their "you can't do this, musn't say that" attitude.

I voted Friday as it's the only weekend option. With time zone conflicts I would prefer not to be up too late on a weeknight, for me I'd like to be done & dusted by 10pm GMT, Monday to Thursday. If that was possible, then I'd probably go with Tuesday.

I have a setup very similar to Hoots, with a C2D 6320 overclocked to 2.589, 4 gig of PC8500 and an 8800GTS 320mb. After reading the thread I tweaked the Nvida settings and came onto the server for a quick check. The game was running smoothly at between 20 - 25 fps. How does this compare with others?
I already have another 4 gig of ram waiting for my Windows 7 to arrive and like, Hoot was toying with a CPU / gfx upgrade in the near future.
With a wedding in the new year, cash will be tight so if I upgrade again it's got to be around £100 max and give good bang for my buck. My mobo is an Asus P5B and doesn't support SLi but will take a quad core.

One thing that stuck out for me, from the first map to the last, was a less than ideal understanding of the terrain.
During the first map, things may have got confused with the heavy firefight but Bravo were constantly being asked to give cover from positions that did not yield a view of target or Alpha's advance.
On subsequent maps, it ws much of the same, even when I joined the Charlie sniper squad, so a lot of "on-the-fly" re-positioning was required.
In all cases where this was a problem, the squads I was in were being asked to position themselves on an "up-slope", so being given no view and when some of us moved to achieve a line of sight, we were getting verbal flack for advancing. On that score, I know I certainly could have communicated better, as to why I was moving.
Maybe we could use some more map training?
-
That's the most fun I've had in I don't know how long!
Really well structured and effective, well done to everyone.
Even enjoyed my brief stint leading the sniper squad, a CTD during the firefight didn't help but we held it all together.
Can't wait for the next one!

Great suggestions all. We're on our way to making an SOP that will work and keep the server running smoothly all night long. Keep 'em coming!
I'm liking where this is going, a lot. It's what makes gaming with you guys enjoyable, must be old age but this stuff is just what I enjoy now-a-days.
However, I'm not sure how this is going to work without hiccup as long as you keep it an open server. The admins are always going to have one eye on mischief and flouting of the SOP. Hope I'm wrong but there's always the frustration of people coming in and throwing the proverbial spanner.
Anywho.... my 2 cents: Clear guidelines for captured armour, too often we've worked to secure and re-use T-90's etc only to get someone take us out without listening to TS / reading the chats or just plain looking at the map.
Can we wrap this up in the SOP somehow or do we veto recovering opfor armour?

Congratulations, welcome to the club.... although mine are teens now, with a whole different set of probs!
BTW, you now have the most appropriate user name ever!!!

I'm having bags of fun on your server, the only thing keeping me away from your tactical is the timing: I'll get there at some point!
The general gameplay is good, there's a great mix of people who want to play for the right reasons, admittidly there's the occasional dick!
But, the Tek guys really blew me away tonight. Their limited time on the server, the majority of it flying, was sweet. Perfect co-ordination and real team players.
It was my first time with them but hopefully more to come and I hope they drop by the forums too.
Keep it up TEK!

In the UK the P5Q's are classified as DDR2's, so I'm guessing that's what you will be limited to.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CBA mod and other mods/addons, have already been reported as the main issue. I would suggest running vanilla until mods have been adapted.
Played last night for 2 hours with 6 of us playing various missions, no issues at all, no mods or addons used all round. Game ran better than ever.
Played on Sparta server later on, also had screen freezes right from the start, but not as much as most others where reporting.
@DaiSan
If you have used object ID`s at all in your mission, you will need to check them again. This also screws up custom missions from functioning.
I have no mods or addons running, still "vanilla", as you'd say. Or are you referring to server mods / addons?
-
After the 1.03 patch was installed on the UK servers I experienced what I can only describe as screen-freeze. It wasn't a total lock up, rather every so often, the screen would freeze, maybe only for a second or two and then would come back to life in exactly the same position. So very different to the traditional lag I've experienced where you end up jumping from one point to another.
Did anyone else on the server experience this, or is it just me and co-incidental to the 1.03 update?
-
I assume we weren't playing this mod last night?
Only reason I ask is last night I experienced the "seagull" you mentioned and I've never seen this before. To be honest I crashed more times last night than I've ever done, it seemed really unstable.
The seagull thing confused me no end though.....
-
You did a cracking job last night, Connor. Can't believe that was your first time on ArmA, your flying was top notch.
One of, if not the most level headed youngsters I've shared server time with, you're a credit to your Dad. looking forward to more of the same.

I did think about it, as Forrester says, I'm already using an 8800GTS 320mb of the BFG variety. But aside from the shipping across the pond issue, I don't think my P5B supports SLi.
It's all about me, folks.
