  1. Thanks for the quick reply. I was using Everest and the video driver number I listed was actually the PhysX component which hasn't changed much, if any, over the course of the more current driver releases as far as I can tell. I just DL'd and installed the latest WHQL set which is 314.22 I believe. Release date was 3/25/13 which was more current than any of their Beta drivers so all should be well. I've been having some weird video issues with the Alpha so fingers are crossed that the latest drivers will settle things down. And I agree with you on the BIOS, particularly after having a rig or two do their book end impersonations which is alway a hoot. So I'll follow your lead and hold firm. Again thanks for the quick reply and I'll hope to see you around and maybe give A3 a look before long. Cheers
  2. Hello All, Is anyone running the ASUS Rampage II Extreme MB? If so, which BIOS do you run/recommend. I'm currently at 1504 and there have been ~5 subsequent releases with 2101 being the most current afaik. I've had some nightmare scenario flash upgrade experiences which is prompting my asking what may seem obvious to most. e fyi .. I'm using the original i7 920 w/very modest OC (~3.2) due to an extended break from gaming, Win7 x64, 6GB RAM soon to be 12GB which I have on hand but pulled. PSU is PC P&C 860w TC (pre buy-out vintage) --------------------- Does anyone run an EVGA GTX 580 (3072 MB)? If so, which drivers do you run/recommend. (No OC on my 580 currently and I 'think' drivers are showing as 9.18.13.697 ie antiques) I think this one is a 'duh' welcome to the present type of things but I have no pride and thought I'd ask for recommendations. I'll likely just go with the most current WHQL version unless anyone has other thoughts --------------------- I'm trying to ramp up old faithful for A3 so sincere apologies if I'm posting in the wrong area. This PC hasn't broken a sweat in years which is why the current arrangement has been more than adequate. But with A3 on the near horizon I'm struggling to avoid the urge for a new build, or major refurb, and will try to get some more life out of old faithful. If anything 'perhaps' a GPU (suggestions?) and the SSD(s) I've procrastinated on forever might be in order, but that's about it. Many thanx in advance for any/all input. Very, very much appreciated. Cheers, X

    Arma 3

Bitten by the ArmA 3 bug as well mate As soon as I figure out this 'Steam' thing I'm hoping it will be smooth sailing. Glad (very) to hear you're joining in the festivities.
  4. Roger that and can do. I believe I'm currently at: ArmA2: 1.62.xxxx ACE: 1.13.0.522 CBA: 0.8.3.175 Mods: Various Thanks Tyler! For now, I'll hold off on the mega d/l as I 'think' I'm relatively close. But if I need it then no worries and I'll get it. Am I reading a start time of 2000 hrs GMT correctly for 16 November? If there's a way I can free up some time I'll definitely look forward to seeing you folks there and will try to be on TS a bit early. Cheers for the info. Xross
  5. Ah hell, like I wasn't getting enough spam lol → Might someone point me towards the mins for A2, ACE, CBA, Maps et al on the outside chance I might be able to join the goings on? Perhaps I could find them on my own but it's been an age so I will resort to begging/pleading. Cheers for the heads up. Xross
  6. Happy Birthday Lads. Looking good at the half decade mark. Y'all don't look a day over 4.9

    SSD

Many thanks to all for the invaluable info. X58 running at SATA II speeds is rather significant (thx Vii). My rig is getting a bit long in the tooth and this is just the reason (excuse ;-) I needed for an upgrade. Vertex (OCZ) seems to have the drive(s) of choice (thx Zeno et al) so let the upgrade festivities begin. Thanks again all for taking the time to set me straight on which route to take. Much appreciated!

    SSD

Greetings old friends. I've been giving some serious thought of coming out of retirement for ArmA 3 but my rig is woefully lacking. So I thought perhaps a refurb in terms of SSDs in lieu of HDDs/MoBo/CPU et al might be the way to go. Can anyone guide me towards the best solution in terms of SSDs for the best bang for the buck? If it matters I have an x58 MoBo (Rampage II Extreme), an i7-920@3.4Ghz and a PC Power&Cooling 860W PSU. Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  9. I just started using Vista on the way to 7 and was amazed at the amount of non-essential processes running in the background robbing the PC of horsepower that could and should be applied to something important like our gaming.. This s/w was highly recommended for Vista users and I've been trying it during the odd moment I can fire a game up. You might give it a spin to see if it helps: Game Booster And of course Dai is spot on about ArmA 2 being a finicky biatch. FPS are pretty much meaningless and only marginally helpful as a tuning indicator. Smooth play is the ideal not high FPS. Ebden nailed several good points (diskeeper is the bomb) and the tuning threads over at BIS are must reads. Someone may say they are getting a certain frame rate but 'forget' to include things like resolution and vid settings. If you use nVIdia setting up with nHancer is also recommended...nHancer Best of Luck
  10. Cool Bud thanks for the quick reply. I knew you had it covered just wasn't sure which approach you were taking. Edit: I'm seriously going through ArmA withdrawal....I need a fix bad ;-)
  11. Just curious but do you guys use call signs or can you remember the names of all the comers and goers in various roles. Call signs would be much more efficient from my angle but not sure how everyone else feels...Durka?
  12. Excuse me dropping in but you guys know about the 'flush' command right? It will release any memory that arma may have tied up. 'Left Shift'+'NumPad -' (The minus sign on the number pad) and type f l u s h (the word flush without any spaces) So again it's: Left Shift +NumPad minus then type flush I had it bound to a G key when I could still play. Not sure if it will work on the server...might via radmin. Anyway I hope it helps someone enjoy the game. . . Also if you have an i7 disabling HT will help.
  13. +1 for Remington 870 They made their 10 millionth 870 shotgun in September.....There's a real good reason for that.

    Mod Requests

Hey Zeno... I've hit this from a few different directions and what I'm hearing is that ArmA 2 already incorporates the techniques uesd by Durg and Kju for ArmA 1. I hope that is the case as I see nothing along the lines of the 'Vegetation Fix' we were accustomed to in A1. Regards, X
