  1. Happy Birthday Kram! Hope ya partied like it was 1979...lol
  2. Actually very fascinating stuff Medic. The theortetical community is free to explore these concepts but I'm not sure how many have manifest to the observational folks. In any case it is interesting to think waaay outside the box. The one point that does seem to hold true is that only 1/3 of any outcome (like our personal destiny in life) is the result of personal choice. The other 2/3 controlled by chance and the actions of others makes for a challenging go of it. Neat stuff Bud, thanks for posting this.
  3. These are the Sparta rules when playing on the ArmA Tactical Servers (2, 3 and 4). Please familiarize yourself with these simple requirements as they are being enforced. The goal is to work as a cohesive, mutually supportive unit.

Medic make sure you get the @OPX addon that Zebb has kindly put on his filefront page: Zebb's OPX Link The devs have packaged this necessary mod in a very confusing fashion so getting the proper one from Zebb is highly recommended. I'm working on getting all the new mods/addons into a one stop pinned post for everyone's convenience so bear with us while this is developed. As always just grab someone on TS and we'll get ya sorted. See ya out there.

    Screenies

Great games yesterday (into this morning!). What an intense environment....I'm still recovering from that session...lol. It's a whole new ball game out in that desert setting. Zebb has found some more missions that I am adding immediately to server 4. There's 4 or 5 up now that only require A.C.E. and Avgani/Afghan Village. Trying to avoid add-on overload while still getting some fresh missions onto the server. If you haven't fought in a desert climate and would like to experience this heightened intensity just grab one of us on TS and we'll make sure you get set up properly. Great screenies Zebb.....watching poor ol' Cy getting dragged around was priceless. (We continued on to penetrate the village where I caught a slug and had to pay the respawn penalty. When I got back Cy had the bodies stacked up around him like cord wood and he was just kicked backed catching some rays wondering what was taking me so long..lol) We started using the rucks later on to get some more ammo up to the fight. Some of the new A.C.E. changes are just beginning to show their very welcomed added benefit. I'll start working on the mission uploads now and should be on TS a bit later. What a night that was.....let's do that again real soon!
  6. This post has been superceded by the 1.16 Beta Update post pinned at the top of this section: 1.16 Beta Post As of today you must be running the 1.15 Beta patch in order to join ArmA server 2 (and soon server 4). You can find the patch here: Patch 1.15 Beta Let the patch auto-install which will setup both the patch and BattleEye. BattleEye may be turned off server side but let the patch install it (avoids future headaches). You should have a new shortcut for the 1.15 version with a target path that looks similar to this: "D:\Program Files\Atari\ArmA\beta\arma.exe" -mod=beta -nosplash Note the beta folder in the path and in the mod switch (my installation is on D: your target path will show the drive letter\path of your ArmA installation. This is the baseline requirement (so far other mods are still okay). See the A.C.E. Thread for information specific to that environment. Enjoy

    Secret Camps

LMAO... That's pretty much how I remember it. In fact, the more I remember it....the closer we got.
  8. Great stuff Athlon! Brake line bending/flaring......aarrgghh. You make it look easy (assuming there's not a pile of rejects just out of frame).. I enjoy all the shots. I think it's great to see the detail and work you're putting into this project. Keep 'em coming.

    A.C.E. Mod

Yes new missions will be put up ASAP. I'll get with you soon. The ACE maps that are on the server now will, at the very least, run a Domination environment so there are battles to fight up now. I'm dealing with a h/w failure right now and hope to have it sorted out asap.

    A.C.E. Mod

Yea Zebb so far it appears the existing mission set is not going to be compatible. That's a temporary set back as there is a large community working on generating new missions and converting old ones plus Battle Center provides an environment to work/fight within. This mod will be immediately ported to ArmA-2 upon it's release. I'll catch up with you soon to discuss.

    A.C.E. Mod

UPDATE: This mod requires the following on both client and server sides along with the A.C.E. mod: 1) Queen's Gambit (ie -mod=dbe1) 2) MapFact Editor Update ( -mod=@mapfact_EU....change folder to this name to avoid conflict with next one) Map Editor Update Link 3) Map Services ( -mod=@mapfact) Map Services Link 4) 6th Sense Battle Center ( -mod=@SIX_BC) Battle Center Link So my switch line looks like this: -mod=@ACE;dbe1;@mapfact_EU;@mapfact;@SIX_BC The laggy frame rates experienced were directly related to running existing missions with this mod....won't work. The Battle Center and the Updated Editor provides the environment to both experience the A.C.E. Mod and generate missions suited to it. The changes are vast in scope making this the most significant improvement of ArmA to date. New missions are in development now. Any questions just ask. Also Server 2 can be upgraded to 1.15 at anytime. Once on the server this will be a baseline requirement to join (all command line switches remain the same). 1.15 Patch - Beta Special Thanks to Punisher~SPARTA~ for giving up countless hours of sleep to help get this sorted and without whom none of this would be ready to roll out to Spartans.....Cheers Bud!
  12. I sent you a PM urging extreme caution. Chalk it up to the Holiday festivities but I probably should not have sent you down this path. Your BIOS is throttling the CPU with Speedstep. That is why you see the multiplier shifting in CPU-z. Moving from 2.4 to 3.0 in this short a period of time is asking for disaster. You will also be making larger demands on the MoBos regulators as well which may not be adequately cooled. The B3 variant of the Q6600 consumes 30-40% more power at the same clock rate as the G0.....resulting in one hot chip!! I'll just back pedal publicly and tell you there is no such thing as a free lunch and if you do choose to OC after all the research has been done then small steps is the order of the day. Followed by a battery of tests to see if the system is truly stable. If your rig ends as a puddle of goo then a new CPU will sound like a very cheap alternative indeed. Note to self.....do NOT respond to technical posts during times of Holiday celebrations..... Please give this some serious thought before proceeding. You really should have a thorough understanding of every aspect of the system you are tweaking.....if not it will bite you.......and it may anyway.

    A.C.E. Mod

A.C.E. Feature List Coming to a server near you.....(eg Sparta Server 4) Get it here: Mirrors Note: This is an Initial Public Beta and is out for testing only. This mod was almost two years in the making and comes from the same team that developed '6th Sense' (several 6th Sense features are included in this mod). Looks GREAT so far. Thanks to Zeno for getting server 4 up and running so quickly with this mod. As always Chain of Command, Unit Cohesion and Mission Sanity are the fundamentals within ArmA regardless of Mod Set. Originally Posted by ACE Features - Robust stamina system that factors in the weight of your gear, speed of movement, steepness of terrain, weather, wounds, and more. The pacing of combat becomes a lot more authentic when people can no longer endlessly sprint around the map and exploit their superhuman endurance. - Detailed medical system. The current implementation takes what worked well and builds on it, and the in-development version goes even beyond that. Bleeding, self-aid, buddy aid, bandaging, transportation of the wounded, etc - you name it, it's in or being developed in. The gameplay we have had from this alone has been spectacular. There's nothing quite like seeing someone get hit, running over to them, dragging them away, then doing a quick examination and following that with the appropriate medical attention. - Greatly enhanced damage model. When you're shot, you can expect to be wounded more often than killed, as is the reality of combat. Stunning can occur, based on the severity of the injury, as can being knocked down, dropping your weapon, being rendered temporarily unconscious (ie: from an explosion). Can't walk? Stunned? Unconscious? No worries - a buddy can drag you from the battlefield and call a medic over to tend to you. The same system applies to vehicles as well - if a vehicle takes a hard hit, it's likely that the crew will be knocked out, which may cause their vehicle to drive erratically or come to a halt. Fellow soldiers can then run to it and drag the unconcious crew members out of the vehicle and to safety. - Rucksacks & improved inventory system. The rucksack system from Wargames League has been greatly enhanced - the interface is integrated with the gear menu and is absolutely trivial to learn and use. Pack extra ammo, grenades, medical supplies, etc, in a rucksack that can be dropped when necessary to lighten your load (ie at the final staging area before an assault). - Crew-served weapons. An M2 team may consist of several people - one with the gun itself, one with the tripod, and another with ammo. You can deploy these weapons anywhere (even on top of buildings), break them down to transport somewhere else, or even pick up the fully deployed weapon with the help of several players and move it to a new location. - Realistic aircraft egress. Jets have ejection seats that will propel you clear before deploying your parachute. There are no more "magic parachutes" - if you jump out of a helo and aren't packing a parachute, you're going to plummet to your grisly demise. Parachutes are an inventory item that must be present for parachute functionality to happen, and you'll be able to choose when you pull the ripcord to avoid those awkward "Oh god please don't shoot me in my chute" deaths that can otherwise happen. - Authentic startup times for vehicles. No more instant-on Abrams. While you will not have to wait the full amount of time that some vehicles require in reality for the sake of gameplay and fun, there will be delays to encourage proper and realistic gameplay behaviors. - Fantastic visual effects, created by none other than Maddmatt. If you've used his public ArmA Effects stuff, you'll have a good idea of what to expect. - Tweaked vehicular damage, resulting in less catastrophic kills, and more of a focus on mobility kills and other non-catastrophic-explosion-causing forms of destruction. - Authentic helicopter gunnery. Currently in the mid stages of development, the ACE Cobra features a fantastically modeled set of weaponry and functionality taken straight from the actual Cobra flight manual. More details on this in the future - we're keeping the specifics under wraps for right now, but rest assured that the end result is going to please anyone who has ever wished that the ArmA helo experience was more than just "lock-fire-rinse-repeat". - Enhanced AI behaviors and more authentic levels of accuracy and lethality. Combine this with other aspects of ACE and you have firefights that last longer, result in more wounding and less killing, and just generally are more enjoyable to partake in. - Other assorted cool things - backblast for anti-tank weapons, blast overpressure effects, no ammo counter for rifles and such (with the ability to do a "magazine check" to get an idea of how full your current magazine is), enhanced recoil modeling, simulation of unexploded ordnance, wind influencing helicopter flight, new character types (ADF, USMC, USN/SEAL, USARMY), weapons, and vehicles, proper anti-tank rocket ballistics, etc etc etc. That's not even counting a ton of things that are in the pipeline (such as the radio enhancements, map enhancements, and a ton more). - Over 25 islands ported from WGL for OFP. While not as visually pretty as Sahrani, these islands provide tried-and-true gameplay that gets you off of Sahrani for some varied terrain and new combat and mission possibilities. They don't look half bad in the ArmA engine, either! There's also a brand new ArmA island that has been created, but the details of that will have to wait until a bit later. Enjoy
  14. You might consider OC'ing if you're thinking about changing CPUs anyway. I've run both the E6600 and Q6600 at 3200 Mhz on that MoBo (which is an excellent OC board). Eg: 400 x 8 (multplier) = 3200 Mhz at CPU 400 x 2 (DDR) = 800 Mhz at RAM 400 x 4 (QDR) = 1600 Mhz at FSB Performs at level only 8 core Zeons could reach not long ago. I was getting 1T command rates before adding the other sticks. Need good cooling and airflow but those numbers keep you 'Linked and Synced' and is quite responsive. The overvolting necessary to support the higher frequencies and the shortening of duty cycles makes heat enemy number one. I did lap the E6600 for better contact to the cooler but it may not be necessary with modern thermal paste (Q6600 is bone stock but is the G0 variant). Of course your mileage may vary and best of luck regardless of the path you take. Peace ps... The point of all this is why not use an OC Mobo to OC an OC'able CPU that could very easily exceed the stock results of any CPU you're considering? If you're going to run at stock speeds anyway you could get by with a much less expensive MoBo and put the savings toward the CPU/GPU. Just my 2 1/2 cents. Good Luck.
  15. May the light shine on all of you and yours.

    1.15 beta patch

How to run the Beta: You can still run your existing ArmA normally by using the existing shortcuts and as far as we know, the beta shouldn't interfere with your game, so even after you installed the beta you should be able to install this beta patch normally. To run the beta version, you need to start "Launch Arma Beta Patch" in your ArmA game directory. If you need to run ArmA another way, and you still want to run the beta, make sure to start the ArmA.exe from the beta subfolder with working directory set to the normal ArmA directory and also with command line option -mod=beta I wouldn't rush to put this on quite yet though. Give us a chance to do some testing to try and head off any possible FUBARs. It is encouraging to see BIS still improving this s/w right up to the eve of the release of ArmA-2. Impressive support. Kudos to Zebb for the find.

    1.15 beta patch

Nice Zebb, Hit me up if I can be of any help testing. I can set up a private server but don't have the b/w to support more than a few players. Let me know. Great stuff! Cheers
  18. Cool vid Cobol. Sure hope you're doing well....haven't seen ya in ages. Have a great holiday
  19. Nice one Kiwi and oddly satisfying..
